    Six outstanding researchers are joining our 2025-26 Policy Brief Program! Their expertise spans across critical areas of public health, tax policy, socio-economic equity, global affairs, and beyond, and we are confident they will bring fresh perspectives and rigor to the issue at hand. Meet our 2025-26 Researchers: 🩺 Dr. Al-Amin Ahamed, PharmD A double graduate from the University of Toronto, Dr. Al-Amin holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and has been recognized as Valedictorian and a U of T Global Scholar. Passionate about global health equity, he co-founded TRUSTi, a harm reduction venture, and is committed to optimizing healthcare access for marginalized groups. Currently pursuing a Master of Public Policy at McGill University as a McCall MacBain Scholar, Al-Amin aims to bridge the gap between healthcare and policy-driven interventions. 🔬 Zara Ahmed, MPH (c) A Master of Public Health student at the University of Alberta with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights, immigrant and refugee health, and health equity. Zara is also a graduate in Honours Bio-Medical Sciences from the University of Guelph and is passionate about driving community-based health solutions. 💼 Pallawi Anand Hailing from India, Pallawi brings over 6 years of experience as a civil servant with the Ministry of Finance, specializing in Indirect Tax Administration and Goods & Services Tax (GST). She recently completed her Master’s in Public Policy at McGill University and is eager to deepen her knowledge of Bangladesh’s socio-economic landscape. 🌍 Nahid Tahrima Rashid A policy and government affairs professional with a deep commitment to climate change, poverty reduction, and women’s empowerment. With experience working in Singapore and Bangladesh, Nahid holds a Master’s in Public Policy from the National University of Singapore and another Master’s in Applied Economics from BRAC University. 📊 Tasneem Tahrin A Master of Global Affairs graduate with a passion for creating scalable social change through data-driven decision-making. Tasneem’s experience across government, international organizations, and NGOs enables her to communicate complex development concepts effectively. 📈 Xinyuan(Shirley) X. An economist with dual Master’s degrees from the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Xinyuan is dedicated to bridging socio-economic equity gaps through data analysis and econometric modeling. The cohort will focus on addressing the critical challenge of youth unemployment in Bangladesh, a pressing issue highlighted by recent protests and alarming statistics from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, with 41% of youth aged 15-24 inactive and a disproportionate impact on young women at 61.71%.     Announcing our 2024-2025 Global Impact Fellows! 🌎 https://lnkd.in/dyzaHSiU In our inaugral year, we received applications from Bangladesh, Cameron, Canada, Mozambique, Tanzania and the USA. After a competitive selection process, 10 aspiring young leaders are joining us on this eight-month transformational journey Antonette De Los Reyes leverages data-driven solutions to tackle refugee rights and education, with fieldwork experience supporting Myanmar refugee populations in Thailand. Aryana Mahmud is dedicated to sustainable finance and social welfare, focusing on global development initiatives while studying Accounting and Finance. Azra Khatun is a climate advocate working to build resilience in vulnerable communities in Bangladesh, focusing on loss and damage from climate impacts. Joy Urio brings his expertise in actuarial science to tackle financial inclusion and economic empowerment for marginalized communities in Tanzania. Meheroz Alam is passionate about healthcare reform, aiming to improve access for women and underserved communities in South Asia. Mir Asfar combines his sociology studies and passion for sustainability to explore climate action and community resilience in Bangladesh. Nora Afifi focuses on policy analysis related to climate change, human security, and resource management, with experience in public and non-profit sectors. Sagorika Haque is a neurodivergent artist and activist advocating for gender justice, decolonial knowledge, and climate vulnerability in Bangladesh. Saniyah Farzeen bridges gaps in healthcare and education, working to make these services accessible to underserved populations worldwide. William Gasper is a Tanzanian environmental activist empowering his community through plastic recycling initiatives and gender equity projects. The mood is ecstatic at BacharLorai ✨

    DEADLINE THIS SUNDAY We are seeking Master’s and PhD students or recent graduates to write a Policy Brief on one of several under-researched topics in Bangladesh. The program will run from October 2024 to January 2025. The Policy Brief Program: Since April 2023, we've united graduate researchers from top institutions like Columbia, McGill, and UofT to tackle critical policy challenges in the global south. Each year, a new cohort collaborates with experts—ranging from professors to senior civil servants and even a U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom Award recipient—to craft actionable, high-impact policy recommendations. Our work culminates in a published policy brief, launched at a prestigious Community Building event during the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. Click this link to apply: https://lnkd.in/eRMzxbBq The Global Impact Fellowship is an 8-month transformative program designed for youth aged 18 - 25, aiming to cultivate the next generation of leaders in social impact. BacharLorai invites promising young students from around the globe, aspiring to be researchers, policymakers, public servants, and development practitioners, to apply for the inaugural cohort of the Global Impact Fellowship. Through this fellowship, fellows will attend capacity-building workshops on topics ranging from the UN SDGs to proposal development essentials, public speaking, fundraising, social media communications, all leading up to working in a team to develop their own resource mobilization campaign - the Global Impact Project. The fellows will also get the opportunity to network and meet leading professionals working in public health, gender equality, communications, philanthropy, and international development through the program. The fellowship is expected to run from September 2024 to April 2025 (8 months), requiring a commitment of roughly 10 hours per month.
