It's finally here! We are thrilled to announce the launch of our Parental Leave in a Day Program. In this program we will work with expecting parents and employers to create a robust and action-based plan so when a parental leave starts there is a clear path forward around the work that needs to be done. This program is available to any US or Canadian-based non-profits and covers a variety of roles, not just fundraising. We want to work with you to create a roadmap -- this way the work gets done, the parent (to-be) is supported, and everyone can breathe a sigh of relief. We are loving the impacts of this policy shift - Hong Kong increased their maternity leave by four weeks in 2020 and the result is a 22% drop in postpartum depression. The study also found that the increase in maternity leave amounts is associated with a 33% decrease in mothers reporting that their emotional wellbeing negatively affected their ability to care for their infants. https://lnkd.in/gGeYXvJB

New on the blog today Chavisa Horemans from The Mother Corp. writes about trauma and parenting. Entering parenthood can unearth existing traumas, or can often be a traumatic experience itself. Sleepless nights, hormonal shifts, challenges with feeding, insufficient wrap around supports, the financial squeeze of being off work -- it can be a lot. Chavisa shares about the importance of seeking out and providing trauma-informed supports for new parents. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gB6dHHdt

We're looking forward to attending this webinar hosted by Ontario Nonprofit Network on Thursday about developing sector-wide benefits, like a sector-wide pension plan in Ontario. Did you know that 77% of the non-profit workforce in Ontario is women and they can work their whole career in the sector and still retire in poverty? Sector-wide solutions are one tool that can make real change in the lives of non-profit workers who otherwise may not have access to critical worker benefits like pensions. And we're especially eager to move the conversation forward about sector-wide approaches to parental leave top-ups 👀
