The North American premiere of Crystal Pite’s ‘Frontier’ is just a week away! ‘Frontier’ explores familiar themes the renowned choreographer has built on over time, including the personification of shadows. “In a few of my creations, I’ve worked with a characterization of the shadow itself; proposing this as an image of anonymity and mystery, and finding a movement language for it,” says Crystal. “The shadow personifies both absence and presence, it is an echo of us, distorted and intangible. It is fixed, finite, yet runs over terrain like water. A shadow does not walk, it slides silently with us in perfect unison, dimensionally translated, effortless and benign.” Be the first to experience a new, reimagined ‘Frontier’ at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre Nov 7/8/9. Frontier, from Vancouver’s own Crystal Pite, features a cast of 24 dancers including guest artists from Arts Umbrella Dance. The work has been reimagined especially for Ballet BC, and explores dark matter, the personification of shadows, and the unknown. “I want to portray something that cannot be portrayed – something that by its very nature demands that it be unknown. What the audience will see onstage is just an impression of what the unknown looks like, feels like, to me.” - Crystal Pite Tickets from $19: https://lnkd.in/gejj3g2F Artists of Ballet BC Images: Michael Slobodian

In August, French choreographer Pierre Pontvianne dove into a creation process with our dancers for a world premiere that will be shared this November at DAWN. The new work, Cloud Poem, was inspired in part by the theme of quietness. "Throughout the process, there were quiet moments where the dancers experimented with movement to music played at a very low volume. Two phenomena emerged for me: the intrinsic musicality within the dancers' bodies—something I find profoundly beautiful and powerful—and the realization that silence in space is incredibly rare." Be among the first to experience Pontvianne's 'Cloud Poem' live at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Nov 7/8/9: balletbc.com/dawn
