Today on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, our venues will be illuminated orange in honour of the victims and survivors of the residential school system in Canada, as well as their families and communities. Our organization and venues are committed to supporting Indigenous reconciliation, and we encourage all Canadians to engage with this occasion through listening, learning and reflecting on the journey towards healing and justice for First Nations, Inuit and Metis Peoples.

This week, PavCo team members from our corporate offices, BC Place and the Vancouver Convention Centre met with Councillor Deborah Baker of Squamish Nation, Seli’xwelut Shannon Henderson of Orange Shirt Society and Jamie Taras of BC Lions Football Club to discuss the importance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day on September 30.   The meeting featured a heartfelt territorial acknowledgement, Coast Salish songs, and meaningful conversations about how we can honour Indigenous communities affected by the residential school system and deepen our understanding of this commemorative occasion. We sincerely thank our special guests and staff for supporting PavCo's collective commitment to the ongoing journey of Indigenous reconciliation.

From energy-saving LED lighting, to a rainwater harvesting project supporting its operational needs, BC Place has implemented a number of forward-thinking environmental initiatives. General Manager Chris May recently spoke with Global Sustainable Sport on the importance of instilling a culture among staff to ensure that sustainability remains a priority at BC Place. After nearly 20 years, the sport of Supercross is returning to the city on October 26! Following a press conference and a freestyle motocross demonstration on Terry Fox Plaza, FIM World Supercross Championship announced seven teams of riders and two wild cards in each class will go tire-to-tire on a unique track inside BC Place for the season-opener. “Vancouver’s growing reputation for top-tier sporting events makes the city and iconic BC Place a natural fit for the energy and excitement of championship Supercross,” said Royce Chwin, President and CEO, Destination Vancouver.
