After careful consideration, we have made the very difficult decision to end the Tour de Cure. This decision comes after 16 memorable years, and raising over $131 million in gross revenue for BC Cancer. While this decision was not made lightly, it was guided by three key factors: rising costs, declining net revenue and escalating external risks such as unpredictable climate events, including heat, smoke and rain. We are deeply grateful for the incredible contributions made by our riders, donors, volunteers, sponsors and staff since our first ride in 2009. Your passion and dedication have fuelled advances in cancer research and enhancements to care. BC Cancer Foundation continues to remain committed to raising vital funds to support the over 80,000 people treated by BC Cancer each year. Last year, BC Cancer Foundation generated a record $85 million in revenue from 82,000 donors. For more information, visit tourdecure.ca.

“This is our home and you don’t want to leave home during such a difficult time. To have treatment and support in Burnaby will make a huge difference in our lives.” Marita Luk was diagnosed with breast cancer in her mid-40s and received exceptional care at BC Cancer – Vancouver. However, she recalls how challenging her commute was. So, she was ecstatic when she heard about the new BC Cancer – Burnaby McCarthy Centre. With your support, cancer care can be expanded to meet the growing needs throughout B.C., including the rapidly growing Fraser region. This means people like Marita — who has been cancer-free for the past 10 years — will have access to treatments closer to home. Give to the BC Cancer – Burnaby McCarthy Centre today to have your donation doubled! Until October 31, the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society will be matching donations dollar-for-dollar to support the new development. “It’s incredible that someone diagnosed with breast cancer today, or tomorrow, may not have to go through what I did.” It’s been five years since Meghan Kreuger was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Her treatment consisted of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and eventually a radical double mastectomy including the removal of the lymph nodes under her right arm. Today, her husband, Mike, sits on the Foundation’s Interior Transformation Council. He shares with her BC Cancer's progress in surgical oncology research and breast cancer treatment, saying “With the treatment they have now, I don’t think you would have lost your breasts.” While it’s too late for her own treatment, she says, “I’m a pioneer in this new evolution in cancer care. Five years can change so much.” Read Meghan’s full story here: https://bit.ly/40cI8rp

“We are lucky to have the system and the people we have. It’s our duty to give back so that other people who come after us can benefit too.” Baljit Dhillon has been impacted by cancer more than once. Both his parents had cancer and he recently underwent his own diagnosis for colon cancer in 2022. Despite his challenging journey, Baljit’s positive perspective on life persevered and his health scans were clear by mid-2023, thanks to the care he received at BC Cancer and the support of his wife Jagir. Grateful for the experiences he and his parents had at BC Cancer, Baljit continues to make regular donations to the Foundation and has incorporated a planned gift in his will, to help fund the kind of care that has meant so much to him and his loved ones. “Every little piece of me knew I wanted kids, but that it came with an added risk.” Hayley Henry shares how the neurofibromatosis (NF) gene resulted in her cancer diagnosis in 2012 and weighed on her decision to start a family, as there is a 50/50 chance she would pass on this hereditary gene. Today, Hayley is 11 years cancer free and is a new mom to twins, and she credits BC Cancer – Victoria for the support she and her husband Aidan received before becoming parents. Both twins have tested positive for the NF gene, but Hayley and Aidan are prepared to plan for the boys’ futures. The new BC Cancer – Victoria Integrated Care and Research Pavilion will provide them with increased access to hereditary cancer care, genetic counselling and supportive care services on the Island.
