BGIS proudly joined forces with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and UNSW (UNSW) for the UNSW Engineering Big Day Out for Women in Engineering, held at the Navy Heritage Centre, Garden Island. This inspiring event brought together around 50 passionate Year 10, 11, and 12 students from the UNSW Young Women in Engineering Club, all eager to explore the world of STEM and engineering. Through our strong partnership with UNSW, where BGIS sponsors a scholarship for the Women in Engineering Program, we were thrilled to host this event and create meaningful connections between our client, the Australian Defence Force (ADF)/RAN and future engineers. Our panel discussion was a highlight, featuring leaders in the field from BGIS and RAN. A huge thank you to our RAN client at Fleet Base East for making this day possible and for hosting BGIS and UNSW. “The importance of STEM in ensuring the future of the ADF and RAN cannot be overstated. Rikki Cooper, our National Indigenous Engagement Manager in Australia, recently visited the Indigenous community of Napranum in Far North Queensland to donate gowns, suits, and formal attire collected by our BGIS teams during National Reconciliation and NAIDOC weeks. The students and community members were excited to receive the dresses, suits, shoes, and accessories, which they’ll proudly wear to their school formals and NAIDOC balls. Given the remote location of these communities, with limited access to retail shops, and the high cost of evening wear, many students face barriers in obtaining formal attire. Rikki expressed her gratitude to the teams who generously donated. "Those who attended the try-on day were thrilled to receive such beautiful outfits for their upcoming events," Rikki said.
