Chief Innovation Officer | Head of the AI Practice, helping clients incorporate AI as part of their business process automation journey

Had a great time at the Databricks Data Intelligence Day in Calgary yesterday. Patrick Golec and I had the opportunity to join our Databricks partners and our clients in conversations about what we have already been doing together and also about what is to come, particularly based on how the platform continues to evolve and the momentum we are seeing. Some key insights shared in the sessions: - The time is right for Data & AI because business stakeholders have a different level of awareness and are actively looking to adopt - Successful delivery is not just about the technical skills, taking a product approach with an Agile methodology and assigned Product Owner roles can be a game-changer - Data Governance is "sexy" again: Databricks Unity Catalog makes the Data Governance task less complex with increased automation and that is bound to increase adoption and success - Partners are critical to address skill gap and scale so that clients can achieve their goals in the Data Engineering & AI space. Thanks Databricks for the thoughtful conversations and for a very well organized event! VP | Helping insurers with data-driven process automation

At the Gen-AI in Insurance USA event in Boston, It was great hearing and sharing what each of us (re/insurers and insurtechs) are doing to address the challenges and opportunities of AI in our industry. From sessions to conversations, here are some of the takeaways: - It's all about the data - Access to data siloed in disparate, antiquated or proprietary systems remains the top challenge inhibiting innovation. Without data access, transformative Process Automation and new AI initiatives simply cannot begin at scale. - Data Strategy first. - A robust data strategy that provides a clear vision for data integration, quality and governance should be set and agreed to with the business before venturing deeply into AI. - … and baby steps. - The best candidate for an AI use-case is very specific, has a clear business outcome, and ideally supports reuse across the organization. How can you reduce your use case to its simplest, most essential form? - Data integrity impacts everything. -  Every employee performing data entry has potential to introduce inaccuracies, model bias or compliance risks. Instilling a strong data culture and setting metrics to enforce high standards for data entry will be integral to avoiding pitfalls. - AI is scary, awesome and everything in-between. - Rapidly changing regulations will impact insurers and insurtechs alike. Still, it was great hearing and sharing the common use cases adopted (so far): document summarization, case prioritization, data aggregation, chatbots and contract analysis. - Workforce Transition. -  Underwriting and claims require nuanced decision-making that only experienced professionals can provide. As seasoned underwriters and adjusters retire, their hands-on experience is critical for training new LLMs / AI capabilities to augment and support (not substitute) the new generation. #GenAIUSA #insurance

This week our team attended SIFMA Ops 2024! Fresh from the conference - our key takeaways:
 * AI is actively being deployed in a variety of interesting ways including detecting anomalies to improve data quality, chat bots on regulatory documents, predictive next best actions, and fraud detection. * A key priority is unlocking trapped data and governing privacy and security of that data at scale. * While budgets are focused on regulatory compliance, the industry aims to rebalance and encourage innovation. * Financial Institutions need the right partner with expertise across leading platform providers, data engineering and AI to deploy the best fit technology for goals. We had some insightful discussions with forward thinking companies about their current transformation journey and how to unlock data while balancing compliance and innovation. Are you looking for a partner who can help you gain agility? We can help. https://hubs.li/Q02QjMvw0
