Following the success of the first phase of the multi-national initiative to provide #Ukraine with #drones, the Drone Capability Coalition launched its second competition in mid-September. Interceptor drones designed to counter hostile threats are a priority, and applications for this type of technology will remain open until November 11. The application window for FPV drone technology is closing rapidly, with a deadline of October 14. All applications must be submitted through the UK Ministry of Defence website. ICYMI: Christyn (Chris) Cianfarani highlighted some positive language in the recent Defence Policy Update around industrial collaboration, but also the lack of a transparent plan to get us to 2% of GDP on defence. A commitment isn't a plan. Listen to the full Q&A period from her appearance in front of the Standing Committee on National Defence: https://lnkd.in/eaFqvP7P

A great letter. Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) has also written to Government of Canada on the subject of industrial policy and its importance in holistically linking economic policy and national security. It's worth noting that we have also written to Trade Minister Mary Ng asking for her to provide Ministerial direction on the misguided EDC Position: Defence and Security-Related Transactions,” effective January 1, 2024 which stands in stark contrast and undermines today’s international security realities, the basic policy goals of the Canadian government, and the promises that Canada has made at NATO to reduce funding impediments for the defence and security sector.
Today, Goldy Hyder, President and CEO of the Business Council of Canada, wrote Canada's trade minister, Mary Ng, responding to Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada's economic security consultation. Goldy argues that while urgent government action is required to safeguard Canadians against economic coercion, mercantilism, and other unfair trade practices, the Government of Canada must ensure the measures it takes do not jeopardize Canada’s relations with its closest trading partners.
