About us

The Canadian Cattle Identification Agency (CCIA) is a Responsible Administrator for the livestock traceability and identification program for cattle, sheep, and bison across the majority of Canada. The CCIA is a not-for-profit organization that was created out of an industry backed initiative, and remains an independent body led by an appointed board of livestock industry representatives. The CCIA's program promotes the efficient trace back and containment of serious animal health and food safety issues through the tracking of animals issued with an authorized, mandatory, RFID tag. The program is regulated and enforced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
