What a milestone: Last year, our member SAMSON Controls Inc. Canada celebrated their 40th anniversary! Established in 1983, Samson has grown from its headquarters in Markham, Ontario, to serve customers in every province across Canada. The 40th anniversary was celebrated with a series of events throughout 2023, including customer appreciation events and employee recognition programs. The Samson Group is a global leader in valves specializing in the development and manufacturing of control valves and process automation solutions. The establishment of the subsidiary in Markham marked Samson’s first investment into the North American market. The Canadian team provides comprehensive services, including pre-sales support, sales and after-sales support, project assistance, and turn-key packaged solutions, enhancing the competitiveness of Canadian manufacturers. Samson Canada utilizes their local presence and local inventory to be flexible around their customer’s needs and in turn enhance their buying experiences. Headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, the SAMSON GROUP employs more than 2,000 people, including 100 vocational trainees and students with a global workforce of over 4,600. We were blessed with great weather for yesterday’s Summerfest! Paul Meyer began his career with the chamber as an intern, and now we’re glad to officially introduce him as a new Project Manager. Congratulations, Paul, and welcome to the team! Paul will support German clients with their businesses in Canada, including organizing delegations and conferences, setting up business meetings and managing consulting projects and initiatives. Before joining us, Paul worked with the DIHK's International Markets Team, where he gained insights into the global chamber network and supported major initiatives like the 2023 AHK Weltkonferenz. Paul enjoys working with partners across various sectors and industries. Paul mentioned that his clients are often surprised by the diversity of the Canadian economy and the unique strengths each province offers. His advice to German companies entering the Canadian market? Business and personal matters can quickly intertwine here, so building a strong personal connection is key. Whether it’s grabbing a beer, having lunch, or simply picking up the phone for a chat, fostering relationships is crucial when working with and in Canada! Paul continues to impress us with his skills as a director and conductor in the Toronto theatre community, leading productions of various scales. Green ITCs will be important for Canada's energy transition. However, the regulations for Canada’s first green tax credits are complex, states Heiko Steinacher. In his most recent article for Germany Trade & Invest, he provides a detailed overview that could be helpful for German businesses – especially since German exporters will have great supply opportunities as there are no local content provisions. The Canadian government has developed an ambitious strategy to achieve its net-zero target by 2050. A key pillar is six refundable tax credits (Investment Tax Credits; ITCs) for investments in a clean economy. Representing $93 billion in federal incentives, these ITCs will play an essential role in attracting investment, supporting innovation, and creating jobs. Four of these six ITCs have been in force since June 21, 2024: Clean Technology ITC, Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) ITC, Clean Technology Manufacturing (CTM) ITC, and Clean Hydrogen ITC. Since then, companies that qualify have been able to apply for the Clean Technology ITC and the CCUS ITC. In fall 2024, this should also be possible for the other two ITCs that have already been approved.
