#DYK there are 5,000 species potentially at risk in Canada, 1,000 of which are a high priority to be assessed? The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada is world class, but needs adequate resources for this critical process. With limited resources, there appears to be no way for the committee to carry out assessments for this many species, says James Pagé, CWF species at risk and biodiversity specialist. Assessment is only a first step in the process, followed by listing under the Species at Risk Act, legal protection, a recovery strategy and action plan; and many species are also awaiting these highly important next steps. Regardless of funding or political support, the underlying problem is that there are this many species potentially at risk in the first place, primarily on account of our human activity.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eH-tGdgc CWF is moving ahead with its programs to support species like the American Eel, which has been assessed as Threatened but waiting 14 years to be listed! #WildlifeCantWait. CWF’s Restoration Ecologist, Tracey, presented our Rights-of-Way Habitat and National Native Seed Strategy projects in Vancouver last week at the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) North America Conference. The theme, Cross-Biome Connections: Ecological Restoration on a Diverse Continent, fostered valuable conservation conversations and drew a great turnout. Last week, we gathered around the campfire with Girl Guides of Canada at our head office in Ottawa. Together, we sang wildlife songs, shared stories, and celebrated our partnership for their National Service Project — Action for Wildlife! This collaboration empowers Girl Guides to engage in hands-on conservation efforts that protect wildlife and their habitats. A special thank you to Tirian Eynon and Jocelyn Pender for leading this engaging activity! #DoMoreForWildlife #GirlGuidesOfCanada #CWFEducation
