May 5-11 is emergency preparedness week. It’s the right time to confirm your personal GoBag supplies have not expired, review your business continuity plan and spend some time thinking of community resilience. Listening to the podcast “Disaster Prepared- Are We?” led by Stuart McNish is an excellent place to start. The panel, including Christine Trefanenko from CCEM, explored some of the entities charged with emergency preparedness- provincial government, communities, critical infrastructure, small businesses and individuals. The extreme cold warnings in place for much of Western Canada are another example of more frequent extreme weather, including winter emergencies. Emergency managers, policy makers, planners, and community leaders can play an important role in building resilient communities and increasing resilience to extreme cold emergencies by: 1. Mapping and assessing local risks. 2. Identifying and supporting vulnerable populations. 3. Anticipating compounding impacts on critical infrastructure. 4. Leading public risk communication and education. Visit our blog for more information about each of these actions, a comparison of urban vs. rural resilience, and the potential impacts of this extreme cold front. https://vist.ly/uyqm

Award letters and Contribution Agreements for the Indigenous Engagement Requirements (IER) Funding Program will be sent out this week by the Province to eligible recipients. Keep an eye out to confirm the funding amount your community has been awarded! Contribution Agreements must be completed by March 31, 2024, and need to include a brief description of how your community will use the funding. Visit our blog for insights and guidance to help communities leverage new and existing funding opportunities for maximum impact. https://lnkd.in/g4-R4HuA
