At PrairiesCan, we’re All About Small Businesses! 🌟  This Small Business Week (and every week) we proudly celebrate the incredible small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are the driving force of our economy, leading innovation and growth across the Prairies. That is why PrairiesCan’s mission includes providing advice and pathfinding services as well as managing federal support programs that are regionally tailored for Prairie SMEs. In the 2023–24 fiscal year, we’ve seen:  ➡️ Over 35,000 SMEs benefit from our investments    ➡️ 131 new technologies brought to market    ➡️ $148.5 million in export value generated Our targeted programs, like the Business Scale-up and Productivity program and the Jobs and Growth Fund, provide vital resources to help small businesses grow and thrive. And through the Prairies Business Service Network, we’ve connected over 3,700 businesses with critical support services and trained over 30,200 participants—ensuring every entrepreneur has the guidance they need to succeed. We know inclusivity is a key to wide-spread propsperity. Our initiatives support Indigenous businesses and underrepresented groups, to ensure that everyone has a path to success. This past year, Community Futures Organizations provided 646 loans valued at $35.3 million to rural SMEs, while the Women Enterprise Initiative issued 54 loans valued at over $3.6 million to women-owned businesses. Together, these loans helped create or maintain over 2,090 jobs across the Prairies.
