CITY OF HAMILTON LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT The City of Hamilton is situated upon the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Today, the City of Hamilton is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island (North America) and we recognize that we must do more to learn about the rich history of this land so that we can better understand our roles as residents, neighbours, partners and caretakers.

Happy #InternationalDayofForests! This year’s theme is all about food and forests. As a recognized Tree City of the World, Hamilton’s urban forest is home to some amazing native trees and shrubs that can be a source of nuts and fruit. One standout is the mighty serviceberry! This tree is easy to spot with its smooth grey bark, oval or round leaves with fine teeth on the edges, clusters of white spring flowers, and small red berries that appear in early to mid-summer. Serviceberries can be found in Hamilton’s urban forest: parks, woodlands, and right-of-ways. They will also be available at the City’s Free Tree Giveaways this spring — a great chance to plant a serviceberry on your private property. ⚠️Remember to always use caution when foraging and be sure to reference a reliable plant guide for identification. ♻️Today is Global Recycling Day!♻️ As we celebrate our planet and the importance of recycling today, we’re also sharing important reminders about the changes coming to Hamilton’s Blue Box program. Starting April 1, 2025: 🔄 What’s changing? - Circular Materials will be managing the blue box program. - For questions about recycling, to report a missed collection, or to replace a broken blue box, contact GFL Environmental Inc. at 1-844-415-4351 or hamiltonrecycling@gflenv.com. ✅ What stays the same? - Your recycling schedule remains the same. - The materials accepted for recycling are unchanged. - Continue using your current blue boxes, one for paper and one for containers. - The City of Hamilton will still collect garbage, green bins, yard waste, and bulk garbage. Let’s continue to make a positive impact on our environment! Stay tuned for more details on the blue box program transition. https://lnkd.in/giskTMFs

March 15 marked International Day to Combat Islamophobia. As a city, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful community and workplace - free from discrimination. This means challenging bias, standing against discrimination, and creating spaces where diversity is embraced. Even small actions such as listening to the experiences of others, educating ourselves on different perspectives, and speaking out against injustice can make a meaningful difference.
