Mental health for all.
About us
At CMHA, Vancouver-Fraser Branch, we believe everyone deserves to be mentally healthy and live in a healthy community. By offering community-based mental health education, services, and supports for all ages, CMHA, Vancouver-Fraser contributes to the long-term health and well-being of our communities. We have three pillars of work: • Wellness and Community Inclusion – We walk alongside people living with mental illness. We support them to reach their hopes and dreams and to live full and contributing lives in their communities. • Early Intervention and Prevention – We increase young peoples’ mental health knowledge while developing their skills to maintain positive mental health and to ask for help when they need it. • Mental Health Promotion – Mental health includes habits and behaviours that build positive mental health, social support networks we can count on and having a strong connection to our community. We help people with these aspects of living a mentally healthy life and reduce the stigma related to mental illness.

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM). This occasion recognizes organizations committed to workplace disability inclusion and celebrates workers who experience visible and invisible disabilities. CMHAVF’S Individual Placement & Support (IPS) Program uplifts and supports individuals with mental illness in obtaining and maintaining competitive employment through recovery-oriented and evidence-based Psychological Rehabilitation best practices. Thanks to the effort of our employees, their hardworking clients, and our network of inclusive employers, our IPS team consistently achieves employment placement rates more than double those of similar supported employment programs. Our IPS Program's accessibility efforts were recently recognized with a nomination at the Untapped Awards! If you are an employer interested in hiring individuals through IPS, please contact Jennifer MacDonald, Acting Regional Manager, Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Email: jennifer.macdonald@cmhavf.ca Tel: 778-986-2343 Interested in supporting the program? Please consider donating and selecting IPS through the drop-down menu. https://lnkd.in/g2ypfNW2

This World Mental Health Day, we’re reflecting on the importance and impact of community and workplace mental health education. “CMHA, Vancouver-Fraser was instrumental in supporting our community’s needs. They provided training which sought to strengthen responses, build understanding, and reduce stigma around Mental Health. Their facilitators bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to each training session; which were often comprised of people with a variety in levels of comfort and understanding of mental health in our community. The training sessions offer a wide variety of options for those with little understanding to those who have a greater understanding surrounding mental health.” – Kathy Collins, City of Courtenay. CMHA-VF is dedicated to reducing stigma and increasing workplace mental health literacy through education programs and workshops. For example, we tailored a workshop experience for a team at the Hospital Employees' Union (HEU) to meet their unique needs. “I reached out to CHMA, Vancouver-Fraser and had a great experience. I have a team of peer advocates who works with people with mental health issues and substance use disorders. CMHA-VF listened to our needs and customized their programs to fit our company. The 2 day workshop was ‘bang on’ for what my team needed. My manager was very impressed with the caliber of the workshop. She thought other staff members from HEU should take this workshop.” - Eilene Martin, HEU.
