Providing housing, support services + employment & education opportunities for people living with mental illness.
About us
Embarking on the road to recovery from mental illness is a deeply personal decision followed by an equally personal process. Community-based mental health care allows for programs, services, and resources to be customized around each person’s unique recovery needs. For 45+ years, Coast Mental Health has been empowering people living with mental illness by providing three essential pillars of sustained recovery: housing, support services, and employment/education. Every donation to Coast Mental Health Foundation provides people living with mental illness with a meaningful place in our community – a place to live, a place to connect, and a place to work.

"The most powerful thing we can do for somebody else, is to see and accept them for who they are. People work tirelessly to make change that benefits other people, and this is one of the ways that you can say - I see you, and I accept you for what you're doing!" That was past Courage To Come Back recipient Bernadine Fox's response when Sonia Sunger asked what she'd say to someone who is thinking about nominating. What a powerful reason to start a nomination today! Big thanks Bernadine Fox for sharing the impact of being nominated for a Courage To Come Back Award on her life on Global News BC alongside our CEO Keir Macdonald this morning! https://lnkd.in/gB5_U9zB #CourageToComeBackAwards #NominateSomeoneToday

Feeling isolated can be tough, but Liam - a resilient young adult living at one of our homes - shows us the power of connection! After facing his own journey with mental health, Liam found solace in the warmth of friendship and the strength of community. Through shared experiences and support, he discovered that he wasn’t alone. Together with others at his home, he's created a space where everyone can thrive and find their voice. And, he gives back by crocheting hats for those around him! Want to make a difference like Liam? Here’s how you can help: Reach Out: A simple message can brighten someone’s day. Join Local Groups: Be part of a community that cares. Share Your Story: Your experiences can inspire others to connect. Donate: Your gifts power many of the programs that Liam benefited from! #MentalHealthMatters #Community #Friendship #SupportEachOther #Inspiration #YouAreNotAlone

WOW! Our friends at Teamsters Canada Local 464 ’s golf tournament nearly quadrupled the funds they raised from last year! What an incredible outcome! Partners like Teamsters and the many others who choose to raise funds for Coast Mental Health Foundation every year, make such a difference. They provide supports like meals, brain training, music therapy, peer support and employment opportunities for people who need them. THANK YOU!

What are the benefits of local mental health services and supports? - They strengthen communities by fostering connections through businesses and partnerships. - Government investment in these services promotes tolerance and inclusion, encouraging neighbours to connect and support one another. - These networks help reduce crime and provide judgment-free access to care for individuals in distress. - By embracing supportive housing and healthcare, communities ensure that people get the help they need, lowering emergency call volumes and hospital visits. - Strong community health services can lead to new business ventures and job opportunities. How can you take action right now to support your community’s health services and support? Sign a form letter at https://lnkd.in/gmHFgbpA urging your MLA to build a province where everyone gets accessible, high-quality, and compassionate mental health care throughout their life. #BCWeCare

In support of Homelessness Action Week in BC, Coast Mental Health and Alouette Addictions have teamed up to co-host a community event at the Community Resource HUB in Maple Ridge. Happening throughout the week, the event includes entertainment, food trucks, and local services such as pet grooming. The HUB is a frontline response to connect people with community agencies where they can find housing supports, healthcare referrals, including access to detox treatment and recovery services, income assistance, haircuts, tax returns, and much more. Coast Mental Health became the new operator of the HUB on October 1, 2024. We thank the many businesses and community organizations that are supporting our co-hosted event: Katzie First Nation:, Fraser River Indigenous Society, Fraser Health Integrated Homelessness Action Response Team, Alouette Addiction Services, Salvation Army, Ridge Church, Bella Nonna’s Deli and Bakery, BeaverTails Canada Inc., HearCANADA, and LaundroMutt. We would also like to recognize our funders and program partners: Government of Canada, City of Maple Ridge, Lu'ma Native Housing Society and Ridge Church.
