FCL’s commitment to Indigenous truth and reconciliation is integral to our business. This includes exploring Indigenous partnerships and opportunities for economic development and supporting cultural awareness. With our focus on these priorities, we created the Western Nations Gas Bar program. Through the program, Co-op supplies and supports independent gas bars in Indigenous communities across Western Canada. In turn, these gas bars create jobs and economic spin-offs for the communities including support from FCL’s Community Building Assistance Program. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to reflect on the legacy of residential schools. We honour the survivors, those who did not come home, their families and communities and anyone else who has been impacted by these institutions. As part of our own journey, we are encouraging our team members to use this day to educate themselves and to participate in meaningful acts of reconciliation. We hope all Canadians will do the same. It is up to all of us to build a better, more inclusive country. To learn more, please visit: https://bit.ly/3CvNtei

With over ten years of experience with the Home and Building Solutions (HABS) team at the Saskatoon Co-operative Association Ltd., Josh Paquette appreciates many aspects of his chosen career. Josh was first introduced to Co-op through the Employee Referral Program when he was looking for a part-time job while attending university. During his time with Saskatoon Co-op, Josh has held various roles at the home centre, in the lumber yard and in project sales. In 2022, an opportunity to be part of the Supply and Install initiative presented itself, a project piloted between Saskatoon Co-op and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). Through this experience, Josh provided valuable input into the program before it was rolled out to other Co-ops. This temporary project evolved into a permanent role for Josh as the Project Manager, Supply and Install, for the Home Centre Division. “The growth opportunities at Co-op are endless,” explained Josh. “It’s the kind of place for everyone - whether you’re in HR, marketing, food, home and building, or still looking to find your fit, there are so many options. When opportunities arise, you can move around, test the commodities, and gain experience in the business to find what’s right for you.” Coming from a background in sports, Josh also values the team environment at Co-op. “It’s picking each other up, helping each other out, working through challenges together, and holding each other accountable to improve continually. When you work on a strong team, you know someone will have your back in tough times. It helps you get excited about work when you're pursuing a common goal together," said Josh. Our terminal in Carseland, AB. is a key piece of our fuel distribution network. Petroleum products are shipped here from the Co-op Refinery Complex and are then distributed to local Co-ops in Alberta and British Columbia. This terminal plays an important role in fuelling Western Canada.

FCL is proud to support community programs and organizations that matter to our employees through our Community Investment Fund. In our latest round of funding, our employee-led committee selected the Saskatoon SPCA to receive $5,000. The Saskatoon SPCA is on a mission to promote the benefits of human-animal connection in the community. One of the ways they're doing this is through several foster initiatives that enlist individuals, families and businesses to provide temporary homes for animals that require extra time and care. When a family or business decides to participate in one of these programs, they are equipped with comprehensive training, ongoing support and the necessary supplies to care for animals. Our donation will help the SPCA expand these programs by 50 families or businesses. Thank you to the Saskatoon SPCA for making a difference.
