About us

The Ottawa Valley began forming 600 million years ago, and today the land forms a "trench" or "valley" in both the Province of Ontario and the Province of Quebec. The Ottawa Valley has a well defined river "The Ottawa River" running through the centre of this land mass. The land within the watershed of the Ottawa River is known as the "Ottawa Valley". Renfrew County is located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, the Province of Ontario in the Dominion of Canada, geographically located in Eastern Ontario. The County of Renfrew in the Ottawa Valley stretches from the outskirts of Canada's Capital, the City of Ottawa, in the east and along the shores of historic Ottawa River in the Province of Ontario, to the northern tip of Algonquin Park's wilderness in the west The County encompasses 17 municipalities and has an area of 7,645.68 sq. kms. The area is rural in nature and is made up of distinct physiographic regions. The County is a composite of diverse segments, one region is an enclave for research efforts with a worldwide reputation, another is a location of industrial enterprises. The Scenery of the area makes this part of Canada unique. Smart investors and entrepreneurs who want to put down roots no longer compromise between career opportunities and lifestyle. Instead they look to doing business in an environment where they can combine a stimulating career path with a pleasing way of life. More and more, they look to the Ottawa Valley - Renfrew County. Here, the success of established businesses are applauded and new ventures are helped along the way with good sense, support and advice. As with any community, we rely heavily on the benefits of a strong support network linking us to new ideas, contacts and opportunities - nearby and around the world.

Operators from municipalities across Renfrew County put their skills to the test recently for the annual Renfrew County Roads Supervisors Association Operators Roadeo, hosted by the County of Renfrew at the White Water Patrol Garage. The Roadeo promotes safety, courtesy and professional public works driving skills in a challenging competition. Nearly 40 participants made their way through the course, demonstrating their ability to make safe turns both while going forward and in reverse and avoiding obstacles along the way. Once all of the points were tallied, Trevor Hamilton from the Township of McNab/Braeside took the top spot and earned the title of “Mr. Plow” for 2023-24, while Phil Daber of the White Water Patrol was a close second. Both will now have the opportunity to compete at the 29th Annual Association of Ontario Road Supervisors (AORS) Provincial Safety Truck Roadeo on Wednesday, September 25 in Douro, Ontario, hosted by the County of Peterborough/City of Kawartha Lakes Public Works Association. The County of Renfrew had a total of nine operators finish in the top-15, including Andrew Hamilton of the County of Renfrew Goshen Patrol who placed three spots behind his brother in fourth. Congratulations to the entire team that represented the County. We would also like to thank the organizing committee for an amazing day of challenges and camaraderie, as well as the White Water Patrol for supplying the facility. #TruckRoadeo #RenfrewCountyRoads #SafetyFirst

Summer is not just a season of warmth and sunshine — it's an opportunity to bring fresh energy and ideas into our Corporation. This summer, as with others, the County of Renfrew was able to welcome students to work in various Departments and they have been invaluable, offering a unique blend of youthful enthusiasm and a willingness to learn that enriches our daily operations. The County’s Public Works and Engineering Department has a history of hiring Summer Students to work as Junior Engineering Technicians our of our Pembroke Office as well as Student Labourers at each of our four Patrol Garages to assist with summer operations. Having the Jr. Engineering Technicians working in the field during our busy construction season provides invaluable experience, and on-the-job training to these students and is also a tremendous benefit to the County. The Jr. Engineering Technicians assist with topographic surveys, level works, road inspections, trail inspections, structure inspections, structure designs, construction supervision/inspection, and complete many other tasks in their time here. The Student Labourers are invaluable in supporting the maintenance of County Roads and Structures as they assist with important maintenance activities during the summer months including flagging operations, whipper snipping near guiderails, patching, testing reflectivity of signs along our County Roads, and many other road maintenance activities. Additionally, high school cooperative education students join the Department and are introduced to all aspects of Public Works & Engineering, assisting wherever possible to gain insights into potential future career paths. We thank these students for their contributions to the Public Works and Engineering Department and to the County of Renfrew as a whole. This year's Public Works and Engineering students are as follows: Jr. Eng Techs – Andrew, Loik and Lucas   Student Labourers – Brendan, Kyle, Owen, William (missing) Coop students – Charlie, Suzie #SummerStudents #RenfrewCounty
