  • In honour of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, let's take a minute to learn about how we can make the workplace a better environment for everyone by recognizing the variations in neurological function among individuals.   Neurodiversity refers to variations in neurological function among people and unlike physical differences, it is often invisible. The term “neurodiversity” refers to the diversity of all people, but it is frequently used in the context of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) along with other neurological or developmental conditions including ADHD or learning disabilities. These differences are individualized and it's important to recognize the value of neurodiverse individuals in the workplace. Lack of awareness about neurodiversity can lead to unintentionally excluding people with neurodevelopmental differences.    This post is a contribution from Amanda Tam, CPHR from the Social Media Committee. Swipe to learn more about fostering an inclusive environment for neurodiverse talent.

This past weekend, I had the privilege of competing in HRC West 2025, and while our team may not have taken home the official win, we won where it truly counts— in fun! 🎉 To borrow a line from Jim Varney’s character in The Simpsons (S9E12, Bart Carny): "There is no shame in losing to the best." And that’s exactly what happened—we competed against some of the brightest minds in HR, and the best of the best came out on top. Huge congratulations to the winning teams! That said, I couldn't have asked for a better team. Curtis Towle, Adil Quraishi, and Shozab Naqvi, you were incredible teammates, and I’m grateful for the experience we shared. A special thank you to our coach, Kiersten Crane, who guided our team with wisdom and encouragement. And of course, a huge shout-out to Ron Stephen and Amanda Van Haaften, CTMP, CPHR, SHRM-SCP, MER for their invaluable support as advisors. I also want to recognize Cali Kleine and the CPHR Alberta team for organizing such a fantastic event—it was an absolute pleasure to be part of it. And to the judges, thank you for your time and insight! Though I didn’t get to meet all of you, I was fortunate to connect with Angela Champ, whose book, The Squiggly Line Career, was delivered to my doorstep today—I can’t wait to dive into it! 📖 This experience was about more than just competition—it was about learning, connecting, and growing.

HRC WEST CASE COMPETITION 2025💫 It was a great honor to be one of the delegates to represent Acsenda School of Management during the HRC West Case Competition last weekend at University of Alberta in Edmonton. This year was a remarkable one for me as one of the presenters! The experience was totally at a different level. It made me realize how much I have grown and how my HR expertise expanded over the years, developing stronger skills in solving real business cases. Moreover, I saw how our team grew and improved so much as a result of months of dedicated practice. We may not have won, but we surely stepped out from the presentation room with so much pride and big smiles in our faces knowing how we represented our institution very well. Thank you so much to our HR Program Director Pomponia Martinez, BSc., MAM (HR), CPHR and Anna Tur, MPA, BBA, CPHR for tirelessly nurturing us, for believing in us, and for taking good care of us all throughout this journey. We appreciate you 🩷 And to my amazing Innovision HR team Vince Santos Obusan, Vince Bryan Faelden, and Alyssa Maurine Berona, M.Arch kudos to all of you! You all made this experience more rewarding. Lastly, congratulations to all 20 participating schools and thank you CPHR BC & Yukon and CPHR Alberta for this transformative experience and for putting everything together seamlessly!

What an incredible experience at the CPHR HRC West Case Competition! These few days were packed with learning, collaboration, and meaningful connections that I'll carry with me throughout my career journey. The opportunity to connect with students from different institutions was invaluable. Each presentation showcased unique perspectives, and judges' feedback provided insights extending beyond classroom learning. Diana K's presentation was truly inspiring, and her journey and wisdom resonated deeply with me. I'm so grateful for the chance to hear her story. Meeting Angela Champ was equally valuable, her expertise and approachability made our conversations both enlightening and enjoyable. I can't express enough gratitude to our coach Kiyan Sheikh, B.A for his support, commitment, and patience throughout our preparation, and how he pushed us to dig deeper and think more critically. And a special thanks to Professors Jeffrey H. and Aurora Faundo, EdD, MBA, BSc, CPHR for their mentorship and encouragement. And my amazing team! Those intense training sessions created a bond I never expected. Rina Pinsky, CPHR Student Member, your objective and straightforward approach kept us grounded when we needed it most, you have this incredible ability to cut through complexity and find clarity. Maya Amiri, your sweet nature combined with your challenging questions pushed our thinking to new levels, you were our peacemaker with a purpose, bringing harmony and depth to our work. And Saksham Jairath, your meticulous attention to detail and gift with words transformed our ideas into something truly compelling, you found the perfect phrases when the rest of us were struggling. Exploring the University of Alberta campus and experiencing Edmonton was the cherry on top. Having the opportunity to travel to a different province and immerse myself in this competition was a blast! This competition wasn't just about the case, but about growth, connection, and discovering what we're capable of when working together. Thank you CPHR BC & Yukon and CPHR Alberta for this transformative experience! #CPHRHRCWest #HRCompetition #ProfessionalDevelopment #TeamWork #CareerGrowth
