Tip of the Week: Authenticity Authenticity is a key factor in social media strategies because authenticity builds trust with consumers. Businesses that share genuine stories and connect with their audience on a human level create transparency. That develops the trust consumers want from businesses and therefore makes them more like to buy from you, especially when compared to other businesses that appear unapproachable or fake. When you present your story and passion to consumers, it shows there is a real person behind the business and provides the authenticity that can lead to loyalty. When Saul and David Navarro left Monterrey, Mexico for Toronto, they knew they had to bring a little slice of home with them. That’s how their idea for Canada’s very first Mexican coffee shop, La Gloria Mexican Coffeehouse and Brunch was born. Located right in the heart of Cabbagetown, their cozy café isn’t just about coffee—it’s about sharing culture, creating community, and celebrating the rich, vibrant heritage of Mexico. The brothers have made it their mission to introduce Toronto to authentic Mexican coffee, sourcing beans from regions like Veracruz, Chiapas, and Oaxaca. But it doesn’t stop there, their café doubles as an art gallery, showcasing the work of local artists and hosting events that bring the community together. The coffee shop has quickly become a neighborhood favorite with over 750 glowing Google reviews. When Saul and David set out on their mission, they knew they needed a strong online presence to match the energy of their physical café in Cabbagetown. However, navigating the e-commerce world felt overwhelming, and they needed guidance to make their business accessible to a wider audience online. That’s where the Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) came in, offering Saul and David the support they needed to improve their e-commerce website. For the last 8 years, the Digital Service Squad Program has become an essential program for small locally-owned businesses. For most, the DSS was best known for its role in helping brick-and-mortar businesses with their digital transformation, helping them grow online and reach more customers. But the program’s influence ran far beyond the storefronts that were supported. For those who worked within the program as DSS members—like Thomas Strongman, Dylan Tamlin, and Khushi Patel—the program was a springboard for personal and professional development. When young professionals joined the DSS they weren’t just signing up to help small businesses thrive online—they were stepping into roles that built leadership, resilience, and local community. Thomas, Dylan and Khushi’s journeys highlight how the DSS program shaped future leaders while strengthening local businesses. Tip of the Week: Nano Influencers You may have heard of macro and micro influencers, but what about nano influencers? These people usually have fewer than 10,000 followers but their followers are local. These niche communities have high trust with these kind of influencers, so the engagement is specific to the content they create. Curious to learn more about social media?
