It was an exciting but sombre day at Enbridge Gas North Carolina in Gastonia, as Michele Harradence, Executive Vice President and President, Gas Distribution and Storage, and others gathered for employee Welcome Day events. The welcome was tempered by the fact that in North Carolina recovery and restoration efforts are still underway from Tropical Storm Helene. Our Enbridge Gas North Carolina team is working around the clock with all agencies, government, and other utilities to coordinate those efforts. “I want you to know that you are in our thoughts, and that are our people are doing what they can to help,” said Harradence, who was joined by Rusty Harris, Vice President - Gas Distribution at Enbridge Gas North Carolina, Melissa Moye, Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources and Inclusion Officer Projects & Central Functions, and Jim Sanders, Senior Vice President, Technical Services and Enterprise Integration Gas Distribution & Storage. It was in September 2023 when Enbridge Inc. announced a plan to purchase three U.S.-based natural gas utilities, which collectively provide natural gas service to approximately three million customers in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, North Carolina and Ohio. As was announced recently, North Carolina has now joined the Enbridge family, so tomorrow is on! Expanding the Enbridge Gas utility business to include North Carolina allows us to leverage the strengths of each company to continue to deliver the energy our customers need and want. “All Enbridge employees share a commitment to safety and community,” Harradence said Wednesday. Enbridge Gas North Carolina serves about 650,000 customers in 28 counties in North Carolina, from Asheville to Gastonia to Raleigh. As we move into the energy future together, we now serve seven million natural gas customers collectively in Canada and the U.S. We will be posting North Carolina stories on this LinkedIn page, so we encourage employees, customers and residents in North Carolina to follow us on LinkedIn as we chronicle the story of our shared energy journey, such as this Welcome Day. If you are a customer, we’d like to let you know that while the name has changed, the company will continue to offer you the same safe, reliable service you have come to expect. For now, there are no changes to customer rates, services, or how customers interact with us. Some changes will occur over time, such as the logos on North Carolina buildings, service vehicles and customer bills, but we’ll be sure to provide plenty of advance notice and information about any planned changes. Our thoughts are with those impacted by Hurricane Milton and the several tornadoes that swept across Florida. In North Carolina, recovery and restoration efforts are still underway from Tropical Storm Helene, and we are fully committed to supporting the affected communities during this challenging time.  A special thanks to all the first responders, utility workers, and nonprofit organizations who continue to provide essential aid and support. Our Enbridge Gas North Carolina team is working around the clock with all agencies, government, and other utilities to coordinate efforts. It will take time and we expect a long recovery; however, we are making progress. We’ve recently completed land restoration work in Woodfin and Cane Creek.  Please stay safe and we will keep you updated as to our progress. Clear policy direction on the role of natural gas and lower-carbon fuels in Ontario’s energy system is critical to provide clarity to utilities, regulators, investors, and customers, said Heidi Bredenholler-Prasad, Vice President Commercial, Strategy, and Business Development at Enbridge Gas. She was speaking at the Canadian Gas Association’s Energy Nexus Conference as part of a panel entitled “Regulating Tomorrow: The Future of Gas Energy Regulation.” Bredenholler-Prasad said, “Our industry needs an efficient regulatory process where we can have certainty that we can deliver energy projects to support housing growth and economic growth.” She added it’s important the economic regulator protects customers from risk, not progress, as companies make advancements and investments in energy infrastructure and technologies. Bredenholler-Prasad was joined on the panel by Dave Forestell, Vice President, Canada External Relations, TC Energy, and Amanda Ward, Vice President, Regulatory, Legal & Gas Supply, Pacific Northern Gas. Michael Cleland, Executive in Residence, Positive Energy Program University of Ottawa and past President of the Canadian Gas Association, moderated the panel. #EnergyFuture #Regulatory #CGAEnergyNexus Dave Forestell Amanda Ward Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. If we want to get serious about reigniting investment in Canada, we need to start with energy, Michele Harradence, Executive Vice President and President of Gas Distribution and Storage, Enbridge Inc., told the Canadian Gas Association’s Energy Nexus Conference in Toronto. “Investing in reliable, resilient, cost-effective energy, and that includes natural gas, is how we will grow our critical manufacturing sector, how we will support our burgeoning greenhouse sector, how we will underpin our mining sector as the global need for critical minerals continues to soar, and it’s how we will fuel the data centres we’re seeing proliferate,” Harradence said during a keynote address on Tuesday. Harradence’s keynote was followed by an armchair discussion with former MP and federal minister Lisa Raitt, where they talked about what’s needed to ensure energy investments are made in Canada - and the importance of pragmatic policies to support customers. It’s important that Canada get supportive regulations and tax structures in place to ensure energy investments stay in Canada, said Harradence in a panel on the future of natural gas with Canadian Gas Association President Timothy Egan and FortisBC CEO Roger Dall’Antonia. The panel delved into the role of natural gas in Canada’s energy evolution, energy security, the impact of domestic policies, and emerging technologies. The event is a forum on the growing role of natural gas, hydrogen, and renewable natural gas in Canada, where traditional ways of thinking on global and domestic energy security, innovation, affordability, resiliency, changing customer expectations are being challenged from both policy and technical perspectives.   #EnergyFuture #NaturalGas Roger Dall'Antonia Hon.
