District energy at Lakeview: a better model for community energy. Yesterday we broke ground on our Energy Centre at Lakeview, the largest of its kind in North America. The system will provide heating and cooling to 16,000 residential units and thousands of square feet of commercial and retail space using effluent from the neighbouring wastewater treatment plant. Given the unprecedented growth in electricity demand on our grids, paired with the need to decarbonize, this system will use 40% less electricity with 85% less carbon emissions. Imagine the impact we can make globally by adopting models like this for our communities. Collaboration. Ambition. Partnership. These three words embodied the sentiment we heard yesterday morning as we gathered to celebrate this milestone event in our project. We want to thank our partners from Lakeview Village, City of Mississauga, Region of Peel, and Canada Infrastructure Bank/ Banque de l'infrastructure du Canada for their combined ambitions to bring this project to life, and for the years of collaboration together. We recognize the amount of effort, determination, collaboration and trust it takes to build communities differently. It was truly an exciting day where we were able to see the progress of our partnership coming to life. Last week, we had the opportunity to celebrate the monumental milestone, two decades of Deep Lake Water Cooling with our incredible partners and community. 20 years ago, we embarked on a journey with our amazing partners to revolutionize low carbon energy and pursue sustainability at scale. Together, we've pushed boundaries, overcome challenges, and achieved remarkable milestones that have reshaped our industry. We were fortunate to have Dennis Fotinos, current CEO of Noventa Energy and previous Enwave CEO, share a few words with us at the event to share his memories from the formation of DLWC and how it shaped his career, as well as Lou Di Gironimo, General Manager of Toronto Water speak to our one-of-a-kind partnership that remains strong today. A huge thank you to many past contributors to the early development of DLWC, to our dedicated Enwave team today, and all our visionary partners for their unwavering support and commitment in making DLWC the success it has been the last 20-years. Here’s to the past 20 years of shared success and to many more years of positive impact and innovation ahead! #sustainbilityatscale #lowcarbon #deeplakewatercooling #innovation #impact

The impact achieved from 20 years of Deep Lake Water Cooling is only possible when we get together as a community to put our Minds together, Hands together and Hearts Together. Enwave had the pleasure of collaborating with the very talented, globally renowned, multidisciplinary Toronto Artist, Anthony Ricciardi who captured this so beautifully in this custom masterpiece! The two hearts symbolize our strong partnerships with our Enwave community, demonstrating the Power of Possibility. Thank you Anthony Ricciardi and our whole Enwave Community!

Yesterday we had the opportunity to officially commission our Deep Lake Water Cooling (DLWC) System’s fourth intake expansion during a ceremony at our John Street Energy Centre. In partnership with City of Toronto Water, we are proud of this incredible achievement, which will bring the Toronto community greater access to more efficient and sustainable energy. This expansion began in 2021, and is a significant milestone for both Enwave and the City of Toronto – leading to an increase of the DLWC system’s cooling capacity by 60 per cent. It includes a three-kilometre pipe into Lake Ontario, drawing water at four-degree Celsius temperature through a newly built tunnel that extends under the harbour through to the John Street Energy Centre. With the expansion, our DLWC System is estimated to save 220 million gallons (832 million litres) of water annually -- equivalent to nearly 350 Olympic size swimming pools - and avoids over 60 megawatts of peak electrical demand from Ontario’s grid. Thank you to Her Worship - Olivia Chow, Mayor of Toronto, The Honourable - Sam Oosterhoff, Associate Minister of Energy Intensive Industries, General Manager of Toronto Water - Lou Di Gironimo, Acting Deputy General Manager with Toronto Water, William Fernandes for joining us at the momentous occasion. And a big thank you to our partners BTY Group, Modern Niagara, WSP, Armstrong Fluid Technology, C & M MCNALLY TUNNEL CONSTRUCTORS, Sprint Mechanical Inc and @TriVolt, as well as the Canada Infrastructure Bank/ Banque de l'infrastructure du Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada's Low Carbon Economy Fund. https://lnkd.in/exZiKZmG

We’re excited to share a significant milestone in our sustainability journey. Our innovative geothermal energy project in Markham’s Berczy Glen neighbourhood has received an $8.7 million loan + grant investment from the Government of Canada as part of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Green Municipal Fund. This project, fully commissioned earlier this year, sustainably heats and cools 312 homes, moving us closer to Canada’s net-zero emissions goal. This success is a result of the ambition, and hard work of our partners Mattamy Homes and the City of Markham, our employees, and the surrounding community. Together, we’re making a real difference. #Sustainability #Innovation #GeothermalEnergy #NetZero #GreenEnergy #EnwaveEnergy.
The City of Markham is leading the way in building Canada’s first net-zero community – and we’re proud to support it. Through a successful partnership with Enwave Energy Corporation and Mattamy Homes Canada, FCM’s Green Municipal Fund and the Government of Canada are pleased to invest $8.7 million in the development of an innovative geothermal energy system. As the first system of its kind in Canada, it will provide carbon-free energy to heat and cool 312 homes in the Berczy Glen neighborhood, allowing residents to access clean and affordable energy.
