Yahya, who lives in social housing and whose family used to go to food banks when they arrived in Canada, is determined to inspire other young refugees by showing them what they can achieve. We’re proud to announce that Veni Iozzo, MBA, ICD.D has been appointed Chair of the TELUS Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area Community Board. As the Executive Vice-President, Enterprise Real Estate and Workplace Transformation at CIBC, Veni brings a wealth of leadership, experience and a passion for giving back to our community board. She is a mentor, philanthropist and community leader, serving as the Vice-Chair of the Trillium Health Partners Foundation Board, a member of the Catalyst Inc. Canada Advisory Board and she is a founding member of the Prosperity Project. Veni also has the extraordinary distinction of being inducted in the the Women's Executive Network (WXN) Hall of Fame of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 - an honour celebrating fearless female leaders whose work and contributions continue to break down barriers, inspire excellence, and shape the future of leadership in Canada.   Veni’s exceptional leadership, philanthropic endeavours and accomplishments make her a natural fit to lead the TELUS GTHA Community Board into 2025 and beyond. Through the Community Board and TELUS Friendly Future Foundation we look forward to continuing the amazing legacy of providing support to charities across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area to ensure that youth in our community have every opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. Her first meeting as Chair will be this quarter where the TELUS Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area Community Board will allocate approximately $212,500 in grants to local charities. 🌟 From foster care to changemaker: Marilou's inspiring journey 🌟 Meet Marilou, a TELUS Student Bursary recipient, and student at the University of Calgary, whose resilience is changing lives. As a teenager, she entered the foster care system, often feeling unsafe and lacking the stability crucial to her mental and physical well-being. Despite the obstacles, Marilou never lost sight of her dream of attending university in pursuit of a career in drama therapy. Marilou is one of nearly 1,000 students across Canada empowered by the TELUS Student Bursary to pursue their educational dreams. Her story reminds us that with determination and support, we can turn adversity into opportunity. Today, Marilou is in the process of founding a not-for-profit organization to help youth who age out of the foster care or group home systems manage their housing, finances, and access food and other necessities when living alone. 👍 Like this post to celebrate Marilou's perseverance and the positive impact she's making! #EducationForAll #YouthEmpowerment #FriendlyFuture
