Choosing the right teachers and staff to take on middle leadership positions in a school is essential, but it’s only the first step. The global teacher shortage that all school leaders have been grappling with is particularly damaging when it comes to retaining middle level leaders, since it both dilutes the talent pool and places a heavier burden on those who are already leading within their schools. In this article, we break down three essential considerations -- identified through our deep work with hundreds of schools -- when setting up a teacher for success in a leadership role.
