Today, we’re excited to announce B.C. energy leader FortisBC has joined our Market Development Advisory Committee to examine the potential for fusion energy deployment.      With energy demand in B.C. forecasted to increase by 15% or more by 2030, clean and abundant fusion energy is well-positioned to support the province’s growing energy needs and power its path to net zero emissions by 2050.    Through our MDAC, General Fusion is collaborating with key players in Canada, such as FortisBC, to commercialize our homegrown fusion technology and drive significant job creation and economic benefits in B.C. and across Canada through global exports.      “At FortisBC, we actively evaluate new technology that has the potential to provide lower-carbon energy options for our customers and reduce overall emissions,” said Dawn Mehrer, vice president of corporate services and technology at FortisBC. “We are excited to work with General Fusion to support the development of an innovative energy solution that could one day play a role in B.C.’s energy transition.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gJ9Y9TnM

The fusion sector is thriving in the Pacific Northwest! This week, CleanTech Alliance brought together more than 150 stakeholders across the innovation ecosystem for Seattle Fusion Week. Our SVP of Technology Development, Mike Donaldson, shared the upgrades we’re making to our LM26 fusion machine to begin compressing plasmas at large scale by early 2025. We’re tapping into the regional supply chain for many critical components for LM26. For example, a few of our key suppliers include Axton Incorporated, Nu Dimensions Fabricating and Manufacturing Ltd, Williams & White Machine Inc., and others. Fusion is happening now—and already providing economic benefits in our region!

The fusion vessel for LM26 is here! A core component of our groundbreaking fusion demonstration machine, it houses the lithium liner that will compress plasmas to transformative technical milestones for fusion energy—1 keV, 10 keV, and ultimately scientific breakeven equivalent. Sub-scale testing is complete. Our capacitor banks are ready. Lab operations are going full tilt to begin compressing plasmas at full scale in early 2025—stay tuned! 🚀⚡
