Fusion is at a pivotal moment as it moves from R&D to delivery. Following the Fusion Industry Association's Annual Policy Meeting in Washington DC, Tokamak Energy Inc. President, Michael Ginsberg, EngScD, is speaking this week at #CERAWeek in Houston, which brings together leaders from the energy industry, government, and academia to discuss critical issues and trends shaping the future of energy.
We now have the essential enablers for fusion energy technology: high-temperature #superconductors to contain the plasma and AI to accelerate materials and plasma control. With the increasing demand for energy and the need for #energysecurity, fusion offers the potential for clean, limitless, and secure energy for generations to come. The pressing question is, "how to move to commercial delivery?" This was a key focus of the FIA’s policy conference. Here are some of Michael's takeaways:
• Advancing from R&D to commercial reality: Achieving a new energy source requires the combined will, efforts and cooperation of governments, private industry, and investors.
• Creating value along the way: Commercialising spin-out technologies builds credibility, attracts investment and drives technological advancements.
• Building the supply chain: Collaborating with industrial partners and end users helps establish the supply chain and subsystems needed for fusion plants, while also fostering confidence and credibility.
• Designing superior technologies: Emerging technologies should be designed to be significantly better than existing ones, offering benefits including lower costs, fewer environmental impacts, and greater, or more reliable, energy output.
At Tokamak Energy, we’re developing the technology and building the partnerships to commercialise #fusion and our high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technology. Our recently announced ST40 upgrade, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, exemplifies how the US-UK fusion partnership can advance technology and expertise more swiftly and effectively.
Through our TE Magnetics business division, we’re leading the development of HTS technology for fusion and other exciting applications, including renewable energy, power distribution, mobility, and security.
The momentum behind fusion is building. Now is the time to seize the opportunity.
