📢 Exciting update: LM26 has achieved first plasma! Just 16 months after we launched our world-first fusion demonstration program, we are excited to announce that LM26 has successfully formed a magnetized plasma in the machine’s target chamber and is now forming plasmas daily.   Our team is now optimizing plasma performance in preparation for our next step—compressing plasmas with a lithium liner to create fusion and heating from compression. LM26 is tracking toward game-changing technical milestones that will advance the company’s ultimate mission: generating zero-carbon #fusionenergy for the grid in the next decade.      “We’ve built 24 plasma injectors, created over 200,000 plasmas, and generated fusion neutrons from plasma compressions – de-risking LM26 and preparing us for this new chapter at General Fusion. We’re ready to make some fusion happen in LM26!” - Dr. Michel Laberge, Founder & Chief Science Officer, General Fusion   “General Fusion is a homegrown success story showing the value of Canadian innovation. We are proud to champion their progress as they advance their incredible clean fusion energy technology.” - the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry   “General Fusion’s work is reinforcing Canada’s status as a powerful innovator in nuclear science and technology. Through a combination of federal investment, industry collaboration, and academic research, our nuclear industry is poised to seize the global economic opportunities before us – while growing jobs in Canada and protecting our energy economy. I am pleased to see General Fusion make significant progress in their work to foster energy innovation, increase productivity, and ensure continued British Columbian and Canadian leadership in the economy of the future.” - the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources Canada Read more about this exciting milestone: https://lnkd.in/gs6ycm3p

  • Last week, during her keynote at the #NextGen2NetZero Nuclear Technology Forum, our Chief Strategy Officer Megan Wilson shared the fusion opportunity in Canada with stakeholders from across the Canadian nuclear industry. From clean fusion technology and fuel exports, high-tech job creation and skills training, and long-term energy sustainability in Canada, #fusionenergy can play an important role in our #cleanenergy future. According to Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ 2024 fusion roadmap:  👉 Fusion, in combination with fission and renewables, can ensure that Canada achieves net-zero emissions by 2050  👉 Fusion could create over 63,000 Canadian jobs by 2050  👉 Up to CA$520 billion in cumulative economic benefits are estimated by 2100    Megan also joined our collaborators Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, Hatch, and Kinectrics on a panel spotlighting #fusionenergy as a next-gen technology for large-scale carbon-free energy. Thank you for a great event!

Today, on International Women's Day 2025 (#IWD2025), we recognize the incredible women at General Fusion shaping the future of #cleanenergy. Our team is second to none, from physicists to engineers, technicians, business leaders, finance experts, and administrative professionals.      We want to introduce you to some of the women behind our mission to transform the world’s energy systems with practical, zero-carbon #fusionenergy. Meet our remarkable team members:     🌟 Emily Love is an engineering physicist and talented violist. She’s had a lead role in enhancing our reconstruction tools for determining plasma behavior based on diagnostics, tasked with speeding it up and increasing its performance by five to ten times. This improvement allows us to get feedback on plasma shots more quickly, enabling more efficient planning before firing the next one!     🌟 Sara Weinstein is our Senior Manager of Data Systems. She holds a PhD in neuroscience and brings 15+ years of data science & analytics expertise to our team. She ensures our team is working on the right things at the right time by better understanding where our data users are in real time. She drives our rapid innovation by bridging the gaps in a complex software environment.     🌟 Zahra Moghadam is a computational physicist with master’s degrees in aerospace and mechanical engineering. Her expertise in numerical computations brought her to General Fusion, and today, she is a critical member of our simulations team, advancing our understanding of plasma behaviour in LM26.      If you want to learn more about our team, visit: https://lnkd.in/gt77abGX
