Copy under quote: In pediatric oncology—cancer treatment for children and teens—adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a significant issue, causing up to 22% of oncology-related hospital admissions. These reactions can lead to treatment withdrawal, non-compliance or severe health impacts. Identifying patients at risk of ADRs can greatly improve treatment outcomes and safety. Since 2005, Genome BC has been funding innovative projects in pharmacogenomics to help mitigate the impact of ADRs. A significant focus has been on pediatric oncology, where ADRs are most frequent and severe. 🔍 Learn more about how we’re working to improve cancer treatment safety and outcomes: https://lnkd.in/gESrsMA4 #Pharmacogenomics #PediatricOncology #GenomicsForCancerCare

As the world gathers for COP16, a crucial question arises: Who should benefit from the genetic data harvested from our planet's ecosystems? Genome BC’s Chief Scientific Officer and Vice-President, Research and Innovation, Dr. Federica Di Palma, tackles that question and more in this opinion article. Wealthy nations often reap the rewards of new discoveries, while biodiversity-rich countries and Indigenous communities, who are often the original stewards of these resources, struggle to access and capitalize on their genetic heritage. It's time for a fairer system that ensures equitable sharing of benefits.
