2️⃣ New 🇩🇪 Ambassadors to Present Credentials 📜at Rideau Hall In a diplomatic ceremony, two new German ambassadors have presented their credentials to the Governor General of Canada on this Friday, September 13th. Today, Tjorven Bellmann and Matthias Lüttenberg have officially assumed their roles as representatives of the Federal Republic of Germany in Canada. The couple will share the job and rotate every 8 months, both working on strengthening bilateral ties between our two nations. The event at Rideau Hall is a formal occasion that marks an important moment in the relationship between Canada and Germany. As the ambassadors embark on their new responsibilities, they will play a crucial role in fostering cooperation, understanding, and mutual respect.

🌍 Celebrating 75 Years of Democracy: A Global Milestone 🎉 September 7th, 75 years ago, Germany began a new chapter with the establishment of the Bundestag and Bundesrat—two institutions that have since stood as symbols of shared governance, unity in diversity, and democratic resilience. 🇩🇪 The Bundestag and Bundesrat were established 75 years ago, marking a significant step in Germany’s post-WWII democratic rebirth. Following the years of Nazi dictatorship, these institutions have served as pillars of the German democratic system, ensuring shared governance between the federal government and the states. This structure was designed to prevent the concentration of power, ensuring stability through cooperation and compromise across political and regional lines. Key figures such as Deutscher Bundestag President Bärbel Bas and Bundesrat President Manuela Schwesig used the occasion to both celebrate the success of German democracy and warn against rising anti-democratic forces, citing recent political shifts. Schwesig emphasized that "democracy is not self-evident," calling for its continued protection and improvement. As we commemorate this anniversary, let’s reflect on the importance of cooperation across borders and political divides. The lessons learned from Germany's past are more relevant than ever. Inspiring day for Ambassador-designate Bellmann @UCalgary: Home to the world’s 1st United Nations University Hub on Environmental Change, through partnership with @UNUINWEH, the 🇺🇳 think tank on 💦 water. Followed by 🇩🇪 @TUHamburg which hosts the second hub to offer policy relevant interdisciplinary research, education and advocacy to combat climate change. The Hub’s reach will be global, with outcomes that are accessible and applicable beyond Canada, extending to the Global South. We hope for great cooperation between the two!🤝 Ambassador-designate Bellmann also visited the Quantum City project. Quantum City is building an ecosystem for quantum science and technology in Alberta bringing together researchers and developers, industry and adopters of quantum technology and services. Thanks to President Dr. Ed McCauley, director Buffy St-Amand, all the great 🇩🇪 related professors, the Quantum City and UNU hub teams for an exceptional day filled with most interesting insights! 👏

German Global Center for Excellence in Ottawa: Ambassador-Designate Visits Siemens Healthineers The German Ambassador-designate Tjorven Bellmann recently visited Siemens Healthineers in Ottawa, the German enterprises “crown jewel” in Canada. At its unique facility in the capital, Siemens Healthineers Ottawa, selected as a “Great Place to Work” in 2024 by Great Place to Work® Canada, employs about 400 staff members, some of them being co-op students from the universities in town! The facility unites R&D and manufacturing, a rare combination allowing its multinational team to develop and manufacture innovative medical technologies, including the epoc® blood gas analyser. This handheld device can analyse critical blood gas parameters in less than a minute! It demonstrates Siemens Healthineers’ commitment to advancing healthcare solutions that unite German-Canadian state-of-the-art engineering and bring life-saving technologies from Canada to the world! Ambassador-designate Bellmann had the opportunity to interact with the team and observe their highly impressive pioneering work here in Ottawa.
