For nearly 20 years, the Rotary Club of West Calgary has been an invaluable partner, helping raise over $700,000 to support affordable homeownership in Southern Alberta. Many members have also joined us on Build Days locally and abroad, lending their hands to build homes and hope. It might look like just a big patch of dirt right now, but this is the start of something truly amazing in Airdrie! Soon, this empty plot will transform into 11 affordable homes for hardworking families. Every home starts with a foundation—and we’re so excited to be laying the groundwork for brighter futures right here.

Last week, we celebrated the completion of the first units of 24 affordable Habitat for Humanity homes in Calgary! These homes would not have been possible without the incredible support of our community of volunteers, donors and supporters. There is something innately baked into Canadians and our love for hockey. So much so, that a nationwide hockey tournament has contributed more than $28 million to over 60 charities across Canada. Here at Habitat Southern Alberta, we are grateful to have received more than half a million dollars from the local tournament over the past decade. Each year, amateur hockey players are placed on teams with former pros who rally together to play in a one-day tournament dedicated to raising awareness and funds for affordable housing. Yesterday was possession day for Hassane, Khadija and their two boys! They purchased a refurbished Habitat townhome in Bowness with no down payment, no interest and affordable monthly payments geared to their income. Right now, 1 in 5 Canadians are spending more than half of their income on the cost of housing. Every Habitat home – new and refurbished – helps families build long-term strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership.

Today we celebrated the completion of the first units of 24 affordable row townhomes spanning an entire city block in Calgary. These homes are thanks to an incredible amount of support from the federal and provincial governments, sponsors, donors and volunteers. They will offer local families the opportunity to build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership, and positively impact the lives of more than 60 children.
