    We're hosting a design charette for Edmonton Design Week! Have you ever wanted to participate in a design charette? Interested in cultivating an idea from early concepts, to sketches, all the way to a physical model or prototype? Join us for an interactive, charette-style event, where we’ll explore placemaking interventions at Michael Phair Park through the lens of play. In groups, you'll move through the design charette process firsthand, exploring concepts and key considerations before moving into a hands-on modelling exercise. Designers and design enthusiasts of all levels and abilities are welcome. Grab your friends and form a group in advance, or come by yourself and make some new ones.     Our very own Ali Kenyon and Maeve Counihan will be presenting at the Zak World of Façades Vancouver conference on October 10th! In their session, they'll dive deep into the sustainable design strategies of təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre. This all-electric facility is the first completed CAGBC Zero Carbon Building - Design certified aquatic centre in Canada, with a 92% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to its predecessor. Ali and Maeve will discuss a holistic approach to sustainability, describing how to achieve a high performance building without compromising on social performance, and the benefits and complexities of mass timber in community and aquatic facilities.     Exciting progress at Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre!

    Construction of Coronation Sports and Recreation Centre continues. The project, which is anticipated to be complete in 2026, is on budget and on schedule. Once complete, this shared facility will be connected through an above-ground link to Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre, meeting the recreational needs of the community, while also creating opportunities for year-round triathlon and cycling training and events. The building’s exterior is nearing completion. Work continues on the roofing and the link connecting the facility to Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre. Inside, structural concrete work is complete and all rooms are framed, drywalled and tiled. Work on the 250-metre indoor cycling track is underway. Work has begun on landscaping, curbs, sidewalks, roadways and the parking lot. Learn more about this project at https://lnkd.in/g4awtXJj

    Our very own Ali Kenyon, Associate Principal at hcma, is presenting alongside artist James Harry, of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, at IDS Vancouver this Friday! təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre is the City of New Westminster's largest capital project to date. Miyíw̓ts, its largest public art commission ever. In their talk, Building Pride Through Art and Architecture, Ali and James will discuss how these significant community investments were designed to maximize collective pride. What does it mean to be proud of our community? And how can art and architecture inspire collective pride—in our lands, our stories, and our communities? Together they'll explore what it means to create through a lens of social and environmental impact, and share a vision for future world-building that integrates Coast Salish perspectives.
