As we approach September 30 – the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day – it’s important to consider what led to these days of recognition, and how we can contribute to advancing genuine and authentic truth and reconciliation in BC. At Health Quality BC, we believe that true reconciliation will only be possible once we know and acknowledge the impacts of residential schools, and then take action to address those impacts. We also know this isn’t easy work. However, we must keep moving forward to ensure we eliminate Indigenous-specific racism and embed cultural safety and humility in BC health care. On September 30, and before and after, we encourage you to take some time to think about how you can help advance this work in your organization. https://ow.ly/cAK550Tr24j #NDTR

Patient safety is a fundamental component of high-quality health care and a critical priority for the British Columbia health system. Canadian Patient Safety Week, running from October 28 to November 1, provides an opportunity to broaden our understanding of health care harm and explore what health care professionals can do to support and advance patient safety in their in their day-to-day work. This year’s focus is on how we can take action to create safer care environments—physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, and cultural—that will lead to better health outcomes for BC patients. Our vision for patient safety in British Columbia is a health care system where safety is embedded in every aspect of care, resulting in optimal health outcomes and experiences for all patients, families, and health care workers. We invite you to take part in the activities during Canadian Patient Safety Week and take advantage of resources available to enhance patient safety in your environment. https://ow.ly/ISwl50Tr3uh #CPSW2024
