Anti-poverty organization, advocates for menstrual products and education for women/girls in Canada & Developing world.
About us
Help A Girl Out is an anti-poverty organization with the goal to eliminate period poverty and menstrual shame in Canada and developing countries. While our main mission is to bring about access to menstrual supplies to all who need them, we also provide various other services to our community. We launch year-round anti-stigma campaigns to raise awareness and change the conversation around periods in order to reduce the harmful effects of period shaming. We host virtual and in-person workshops to educate women and young girls about their bodies, in an effort to fill in the gaps in knowledge left by generations and traditions of shame and silence and to disprove myths. We provide additional hygiene and maternity supplies to families living below the poverty line. In 2020, we were awarded Canada's Hero award from international advocacy organization Global Citizen, for our efforts to achieve menstrual equity in Canada. To volunteer with us or learn more about our programs, campaigns and outreach events, visit our website; helpagirlout.org.

We've teamed up with Hamilton Public Library and Milton Public Library to host beginner menstrual pad sewing workshops this fall in partnership with HAGO’s Reusables Project. To date we have partnered with 5 municipal libraries to facilitate these workshops, reintroducing sewing skills back into the community, especially among youth! The Reusables Project is an initiative (initially the 5,000 reusables project launched in 2021) that aims to increase community sewing skills, raise awareness about menstrual health, end period poverty and support sustainability! #ReusablePads #BeginnerSewing #SewingWorkshop #Milton #MiltonLibrary #MakerSpace

🌟 This week, we had an incredibly successful packing party at Nuclear Waste Management Organization where the amazing team came together and (in record timing) packed over 100 menstrual pad and tampon supply kits for individuals facing period poverty! And that’s not all—NWMO has generously sponsored our period product support program, giving us the vital support we needed to push through the year! Their support will ship over 1000 menstrual kits for individuals in need across Canada!!! Thanks to their contribution, we can now reopen our application (paused due to limited funding) and finish the year. We are endlessly grateful to the phenomenal NWMO team for their commitment to ending period poverty! #ppsp #packingparty #periodpositiveworkplace #periodpoverty #endperiodpoverty #periodproducts
