Working with seven amazing interns at Hope for Dementia this summer was an enriching experience! Our interns are enrolled in CGEP and University with intentions of going further in diverse fields of study that, in some cases, are not directly related to the mission of Hope for Dementia. From their feedback, it was clear that they appreciated the experience, which supported the development of critical skills for their future careers. ✍🏻 Simplifying scientific information for social media posts and resource material for seniors is a critical skill for one aspiring medical doctor. 💰 Organizing fund raising events supported the leadership skills of another intern who is studying to become an electrical engineer. 🙏🏻 Writing applications for financial grants gave a future occupational therapist some good experience for a future career in the social services sector. 🛍 An intern who is not quite sure about his future career, excelled at sourcing supplies for a project within budget. 💹 Results of A/B tests, fund raising campaigns and graphic designs of communications provide practical, real world experience for interns studying business management. The diverse perspectives, probing questions and high energy that the interns brought to work, made for an enriching experience for my colleagues and me! Thank you and best wishes for success to Hiral K. Kian Famili Darius Z. Kourosh Ziaie Davoudi Amal Alkhoury Eyad Fallouh Thierry Lagace . #leadership #mentorship #workexperience

Happy International Youth Day! This International Youth Day let's ignite a spark of connection! Young people hold the key to a brighter future for those facing dementia. By equipping them with knowledge and compassion, we can create a world of understanding. Hope for Dementia's Intergenerational Learning Program rises to the challenge. It's a bridge between generations, fostering meaningful connections. Our tech-savvy youth volunteers become digital heroes, guiding seniors through the digital world, by teaching them how to take surveys, make appointments and stay connected with loved ones. In turn, our wise elders share a lifetime of wisdom and stories. But the impact goes even further! Through the Health Food, Healthy Brain: Food Donation program, youth volunteers deliver nutritious food baskets to seniors and those in need. This program empowers them to educate the community about the importance of healthy eating and its connection to dementia prevention. It's a win-win for everyone! Young people gain valuable dementia awareness and build essential caregiving skills. Seniors enjoy social interaction, mental stimulation, and the chance to explore new technology. Join Hope for Dementia's Intergenerational Learning Program and be a part of the solution! Together, let's empower the youth and support seniors, creating a brighter future in the fight against dementia. Visit our website to learn more and get involved! https://lnkd.in/dYjJFdCK

Some more findings on dementia risk factors which are modifiable. High cholesterol and failing eyesight, particularly during mid-life.

Another update to the ground breaking Lancet report, which first set the stage for taking a population approach to brain health and reducing the risk of dementia has just been released. The core factors remain the same, but two additional risk factors have been added, addressing deteriorating eye sight and lowering high cholesterol. In all, investing in significant changes to lifestyle at the individual level, and taking a population approach to preventing dementia is clearer than ever. The full report is 👇 Follow us as we break the report down further over the next few days!
