Empowering Indigenous Small & Medium Businesses
About us
When it comes to creating a platform where small and medium-sized business owners can connect and find resourceful information, CanadianSME has been very successful. Through our team of experts and extensive research, no one is better placed to understand the needs of small businesses. Not only have we been able to fill in the gap when it comes to providing exclusive information that is crucial for business owners when it comes to succeeding, but with their help and the help of business experts, CanadianSME is now well known among many entrepreneurs across Canada today! However, there is still room for improvement. Although CanadianSME is well known for promoting diversity and inclusiveness, we realized we came up short when it came to promoting indigenous-owned businesses from Canada. It may come as a surprise to realize that Indigenous-owned businesses contribute approximately $30 billion dollars annually to Canada’s economy. Therefore, this community that has well over 50,000 businesses is without a doubt the backbone that drives our nation's prosperity. The Indigenous community is a crucial part of our business industry and it’s our responsibility to provide them with all the resources we can that can contribute to their success. We at CanadianSME understand how important it is to provide an outlet for these companies who deserve just as much recognition as any other business out there. With that in mind, Indigenous SME Inc. is proud to announce that we will be launching the Canadian Indigenous SME Magazine. Because we want to be part of the movement that will be contributing to promote and advance the development of Canada's Indigenous Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), launching a magazine that will contribute to their success seems like the first step in the right direction. Our main focus will be to ensure these businesses get all the resources and expert knowledge they need to be successful.

Canadian Council for Indigenous Business (CCIB) announces recipients for the Young Indigenous Business Grant Mya Beaudry is honouring matriarchs and her Indigenous culture one “scrunchie” at a time. She founded Kokum Scrunchies as an industrious and determined pre-teen, and Mya, along with 25 other recipients, recently received a Young Indigenous Business Grant (YIBG) from Canadian Council for Indigenous Business (CCIB). The design for each scrunchie comes from Indigenous women in Mya’s life who have inspired her, and she now sells the hair accessories across the country online, in retail outlets and through vending machines in shopping centres. “This is a wonderful opportunity for youth businesses,” she says. “I will be using this grant towards opening up another vending machine, which will allow me to continue to expand my business.” Canadian Council for Indigenous Business recently announced the 25 recipients of a grant during a live online event. This new initiative, funded by Loblaw Companies Limited through community investment grants, is also supported by contributions from Apex Distribution Inc., CIBC, and EY. The program aims to empower young Indigenous entrepreneurs across Canada.
