From an unexpected meeting in a diner to a life-changing career path! 👩⚕️ Emily’s journey into exploring respiratory therapy began with a simple yet impactful conversation with one of our respiratory therapy professional practice leaders. Through mentorship and the opportunity to shadow her at the hospital, Emily gained an eye-opening look at a field she’d only begun to consider. Emily’s story highlights how mentorship and hands-on experience can open doors to rewarding careers in health care. At IH, we’re excited to offer career exploration job shadowing opportunities for high school and post-secondary students, as well as community members. These experiences allow participants to learn directly from health-care professionals, explore different roles, and find a career path that inspires them. “Always be willing to expand personal connections. You never know the person you might meet one day.” - Emily Read Emily's story: https://bit.ly/3AdLOyw Learn more about our career exploration: https://bit.ly/48aP4qY

The Allied Health (AH) Early Childhood Development (ECD) Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) at IH recently had the privilege of attending a one-day training session led by Dr. Lisa Archibald, Professor and Director of the School of Communication Sciences & Disorders at Western University. The session focused on Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), a brain difference that makes talking and listening difficult, poses a risk for social-emotional behaviour concerns, and is five times more prevalent than autism. Our dedicated ECD SLPs work with children from birth to five years old, many of whom face challenges related to DLD. Developmental Language Disorder Awareness Day was on October 18, 2024.

Meet Brooke, a talented sonographer at Royal Inland Hospital in #Kamloops! Brooke struggled with sciences in high school because she was a bit too focused on the outdoor activities she loved so much, particularly sports. Despite an academic advisor telling her she “didn't stand a chance at a career in sonography” after looking at her high school transcripts, her love of human physiology and human connection encouraged her to persevere and pursue a career in health care anyway. Find out more about Brooke and how she ended up finding her dream job: https://bit.ly/3BxYgJX 🔍 Explore careers in sonography with IH ⭐ https://bit.ly/47RTTFq ⭐
