The International Association for Impact Assessment Conference in Dublin last month has been the highlight of this year so far for me! It was invigorating, intense, insightful and inspiring. The latest issue of the journal of IAIA, which is Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal (IAPA) 42(2) is now available. The editorial included my reflections on the theme of the conference which was 'Impact Assessment for Just Transformation'. Details of this is available here: This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal on [17th April, 2024], available at https://lnkd.in/eKftwUch However, we are already preparing for the next IAIA Conference to be held in Bologna, on the theme ‘Impact Assessment in the Age of Artificial Intelligence’. Its my pleasure hence to announce a Round Table Special Issue Call in IAPA on ‘Exploring the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the future of Impact Assessment (IA)’. The call aims to get a discussion started on the basis of two papers that have been published in Volume 42(2) of the journal. This includes 'Using an Artificial intelligence chatbot to critically review the scientific literature on the use of Artificial intelligence in Environmental Impact Assessment' (available here https://lnkd.in/eiges-im) and 'AI will change EA practice – but are we ready for it? The Mission of IAIA Atlantic Canada Hello fellow Atlantic Canadian IA practitioners! We are in the process of preparing our application to IAIA for affiliate status for this group. As part of the application, we must articulate the mission of our organization. As a reminder, a mission statement is a single sentence or short paragraph that is used by an organization to explain why it exists and what purpose it serves. Drawing on the IAIA's own mission statement and other sources, as well as our group discussions to date (including a meeting of some of us who were at IAIA24 in Dublin last month), I have prepared the following draft. This draft mission statement focuses on WHAT we intend to do. The optional second sentence expands on HOW we intend to do it. __________________________________________________________________ IAIA Atlantic Canada’s Mission is to improve the quality of impact assessment (IA) and promote its effective use to support better planning and decision-making. [Optional addition: This will be achieved by providing a venue for IA practitioners and students in Atlantic Canada to engage, learn, innovate, and collaborate with each other and like-minded organizations and people.] __________________________________________________________________ Feedback welcome. On April 26th, there was a meeting of IAIA regional affiliates. I participated as a member of the IAIA-WNC. There were representatives from the US, Italy, Nepal, Myanmar and western Canada.
