Your leadership is truly impactful and inspirational. And it is needed now more than ever to help bring peace, unity, love and light to our world. It was a privilege to join you, and many friends, neighbours and partners to celebrate this important event, our amazing LGBTQ2S+ community, champions and allies from every walk of life. • Thank you for this special opportunity to learn, support and celebrate together with great music, food and conversation • It builds directly on our DE&I journey, goals and values as a team and as a diverse, inclusive city. • It was great to spend time with Mathieu Grondin, Ottawa's first Nightlife Commissioner, my friend Lee Rose of TD, many members of our Invest Ottawa team and wonderful humans from every corner of our city We also deeply support CANFAR's vision and mission to end Canada’s HIV epidemic. Today: • 62,790 Canadians are living with AIDS, including those here in our city • 1 person acquires HIV every 6 hours • 630,000 people died from HIV-related causes worldwide in 2023 • 39 million people are living with AIDS and HIV globally Fueled by fundraising, CANFAR supports research, builds awareness and cultivates partnerships. This national organization is achieving impact here in the Capital and across the country. • Over the past 35 years, CANFAR has invested more than $25M and almost 550 grants to HIV/AIDS research projects • These investments have led to tremendous breakthroughs in HIV prevention, testing, access to treatment, stigma, and the search for a cure • CANFAR also reaches over 1 million Canadian youth and educators annually through its national youth HIV awareness programs. Tackling Tech Industry Stereotypes 🏈 Who says tech discussions can't happen on a football field? A week ago, we flipped the script at a Women in Tech event (hosted by Invest Ottawa) during an Ottawa Redblacks game. The unconventional setting perfectly mirrored our mission: Challenging norms in the tech world. 🏉 We tackled some hard-hitting issues: → How can we focus on skills and ideas, not gender? → From suits to hoodies - what really defines "professional" in tech? → Bridging communication gaps between Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z → Why do women often start from zero while men enter with assumed expertise? These sideline conversations revealed a crucial truth: We need to level the playing field in tech. 🏃♂️ It's time to rewrite the rules on inclusivity, communication, and equal opportunities. P.S. Pyralume is thrilled to share some exciting milestones! 🥂 We’ve partnered with Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology where a talented graduating cohort spent 10 intensive weeks crafting 179 Hi-Fi UI/UX designs that will shape the new look of Pyralume, reimagining the future of film & media streaming. Representing Invest Ottawa at Startupfest in Montreal, receiving an invitation to the Capital Angel Network #Mashup2024 event, as well as exciting opportunities to work with Concordia University, Sheridan College, and the University of Toronto will continue to expand our reach and impact. The highlight of our summer is the invitation to the Toronto International Film Festival cocktail party, private screenings, and gala—a remarkable chance for our team to connect with Canada’s top independent filmmakers and industry leaders. But we’re just getting started! We’re gearing up to go global with Web Summit Qatar this winter, and we couldn’t be more excited about the future. This event was a #powerful reminder of the progress we’ve made and the importance of continuing to support such crucial efforts. CANFAR’s mission goes beyond just raising awareness—they are leading the charge in funding #innovative research, supporting #prevention initiatives, and advocating for those living with HIV/AIDS.
