At JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, we are proud to partner with Vancouver Food Runners, a Metro Vancouver food recovery organization!    Since the beginning of 2024, they have collected over 815,048 pounds of surplus food and mitigated over 1,377,490 pounds of CO2eq, and we are excited to be a part of this critical community and environmental work.     In the first half of 2024, JW Marriott Parq Vancouver donated 5,817 pounds of food, supported 13 nonprofits in the community, and our food donations have mitigated 9,831 pounds of CO2eq from the environment.    Partnering with Vancouver Food Runners is simple, efficient, and free. With a quick text, email, or phone call, a VFR volunteer will collect our surplus food and take it directly to a nearby nonprofit. Since last year, Parq's For Vancouver program has been seeking a more sustainable solution to the challenge of re-purposing items of bedding and linen from our hotels. Thanks to major community partner, St. Paul's Foundation, we may have found it. Recently, St. Paul's were able to receive 1,000 pillow cases that in past years would've been destined for landfill. Instead, the cases are being put to good use in the Providence care home facilities. 1,000 is a significant milestone. Previous efforts to divert hotel items from the tip typically involved smaller numbers due to the limited pickup and sorting capacity of the recipients. St. Paul's Foundation's greater demand and support permits us to repurpose on a more bulk scale, meaning less waste in our operations and a more positive impact on Vancouver's environment.
