We are now offering three meals a day to all residents in our supportive housing program at the Bell Hotel! 🍲 Before this year, tenants were responsible for meeting their own food needs by grocery shopping, and some relied on Meals on Wheels. Both options were challenging, as low-income budgets made it difficult for residents to meet their nutrition needs. The results of introducing this meal program have been immediate and significant! Many residents are reacquainting themselves with fresh vegetables and are eating three meals daily after restricting their food intake to save money. We have seen a positive shift in the residents' moods and significant improvements in social bonding among participants. The overall health and wellness of participants are noticeably improving since starting this new meal program. Thanks to you! 💛 You can further support food & nutrition programs at Main Street Project by making even a small contribution! - $20 can support 100 PB&J sandwiches for an outreach shift - $25 can provide groceries for folks living in our supportive housing programs - $50 can fund 20 nutritious meals for individuals accessing our shelter, where we serve 600 meals a day - $100 can help us stock our food bank - $250 will supplement the 1,500 meals a day served throughout all MSP programs Help us fill plates and bring smiles! 😇 Contribute today: https://ow.ly/KILc50TmorG #MSPBuildingStability #Winnipeg #Manitoba

"My name is Ilayda. I'm the case manager in the Peer X van. It's a bit different than our regular van outreach. It's heavily focused on harm reduction. We carry HIV testing strips, drug testing kits, first aid and more. We visit different places in the city to provide care. If someone wants to get housed, start a detox program, need income assistance, help reuniting with their families, and other long-term goals, I assist them. I like getting to know the people I help. I enjoy seeing them become more comfortable with me and start sharing their problems. It makes me happy to know that they trust me despite having negative experiences with others before and that they want my help. The most challenging part of my job is finding housing for folks. They are required to have a lot of things to get housed, like IDs, landlord's reference, and money for rent. It gets harder than it needs to be because the system doesn’t recognize them or has failed them. When someone misses an appointment or cannot follow through with a plan, I never want them to feel like I’m disappointed in them. When a person doesn’t have stable housing, food, access to basic hygiene and comfort, they’re not going to be able to fight the system all the time. Even when they work hard to get all these pieces that the system requires of them, they still get discriminated against because they’ve had a history of homelessness or sometimes because of their race. Main Street Project follows a Housing First approach. We believe that people need a stable home before they can make positive changes in their lives. We need a system that doesn't make it so hard for people to get a place to live. We need people to advocate for the rights of those living unsheltered. I am honoured to be able to show up for my clients in that way and be a part of the solution." Ilayda's work is one example of what our front-line staff fight for on a daily basis. To support all our front-line programs including shelter, food bank, detox, housing, case management and more, please make a donation to Bike for MSP today: https://ow.ly/rCzp50Tl9QL #MSPBuildingStability #Winnipeg #Manitoba #WinnipegBikers #BikeWinnipeg #BikeForMSP🚲💛

"Hi, I'm Cameron. I'm a support worker in the van outreach program. We drive around Winnipeg providing support to people who are living unsheltered or in encampments. We do wellness checks on community members when someone expresses their concerns by calling 211. We coordinate with the fire department, paramedics, and police to transport people to hospitals and other services. We also accompany our community members to ensure they receive the necessary care when they need it. Sometimes, people face stigma when going to hospitals or other appointments. Having a familiar face with them can be reassuring and may lead to better care. People who call in to express concerns about individuals in the community really appreciate that when we pick someone up, we do so in a compassionate and non-triggering manner. This trust is evident among community members living unsheltered and those who call in for assistance. It's great to know that people rely on Main Street Project to follow through. As I'm currently working towards my master’s degree in counseling, one of my favorite parts of this job is having the opportunity to talk with people in the van. Even if we're just transporting them across town, it's great to give them a chance to be heard. The conversations we have can be tough, funny, or just casual. Humor is a great way to break the ice and make people feel more comfortable. One of our biggest successes is seeing people get housed. It's amazing to witness the transformation in people's lives. Despite the challenges they face, many of the people we work with are incredibly strong and resilient. They have overcome so much and continue to fight for a better life. We meet people where they are and don't force unrealistic expectations on them. Everyone at Main Street Project truly cares about the people we help. We don't waste any resources. Everything we receive is used to help people in the community. It's not just about giving handouts. We empower people to find safe housing and support them on their journey without judgement." Your donations help us provide essential services like these to the community. Donate to Bike for MSP today: https://ow.ly/24YN50TjlwO #MSPBuildingStability #Winnipeg #Manitoba #BikeForMSP🚲💛
