There's been a lot of talk about the shift to consumption-based pricing models (whether pre-paid credits or post-paid usage). Here are some of our key insights as we onboard more customers on Maple. 💡 Consumption models lower the barrier and on-ramp for smaller companies to leverage your product. 💡 Larger companies still opt for predictability in pricing with fixed minimums or capped usage baked into contracts. 💡 Consumption-based billing is hard to build and a large engineering infrastructure commitment. 💡 Contracts, quoting and CPQ systems need to enable deals with consumption-based pricing models. Traditional software has failed to keep up. 💡 Finance teams feels unequipped to handle these models. They need engineering to get consumption data accurately. Revenue reporting is more complicated. What counts as recurring revenue? How is revenue from pre-paid credits for tokens recognized? Any other learnings I'm missing out on?

Does this sound like your deal closing process? 🏷️ Work with customer on a custom pricing structure 📄 Spin up order form and contract in MS Word, export as PDF 🖋️ Upload PDF for e-signature, manually add signatories ✉️ Send email to the signatory in parallel in case the e-signature email goes to spam. 🧾 Let the signatory and/or payables contact know that you'll separately be sending a payment link or invoice. ✍🏼 Wait for the signature. 🔗 Manually create a payment link or invoice. Email the link to your customer because for whatever reason links never actually arrive in their inboxes. ⏳ Wait for the payment to finish. ⏰ [Throughout] Keep tabs on progress in the process, ping the signatory and payables contacts when they’re behind. 📁 Upload the signed contract to tracking folder 👤 Manually log the contract in CRM If yes, then would love to chat. Maple turns all of this into a few clicks without the painful revenue percentage fees. h/t Ned O'Leary for aptly describing this process.
