We’re excited to share we’re the first hospital in Canada to implement a new, state-of-the-art mechanical ventilator model by manufacturer Dräger! The ventilators are equipped with the latest respiratory therapies and technologies needed for prolonged ventilation and intensive medical care. This helps us provide even better care for patients in our Provincial Prolonged-Ventilation Weaning Centre of Excellence, Long-Term Ventilation Program, Helen Aird Carswell Complex Continuing Care Unit and Intensive Care Unit (ICU). 💚

This summer, we celebrated more than 300 healthcare and administrative professionals who are marking career milestones at MGH! This demonstrates their longstanding commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to our East Toronto community. Angela Albi, Supervisor, Volunteer Services and Special Projects, is celebrating 25 years at MGH. “When I began working at MGH, I was part-time in the kitchen preparing and delivering patient meal trays while attending school. I later completed a placement with the Corporate Communications Team,” Angela says. “MGH is my community hospital – I was born here, had my son here and receive all my healthcare needs here. It’s a part of me and my career – I can’t envision myself anywhere else.” Congratulations, Angela, and thank you for your outstanding dedication and contributions to MGH! Today, September 30, marks the National Day for #TruthAndReconciliation. Today we recognize the ongoing trauma and impacts of residential and day schools, and remember the lives lost, their families and the Survivors. We continue our commitment to advance truth and reconciliation with First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in East Toronto. Our organization is actively working to strengthen relations with the Indigenous community under the guidance of the Reconciliation Community Advisory Committee. Our role as a hospital is to provide safe, sensitive, equitable access to healthcare and we will continue that commitment. Today we honour, listen and learn. Here are a few resources where you can learn more and take part in to deepen your understanding of the profound significance of #NDTR. ➡️ Participate in Toronto Public Library’s Read Indigenous program where you can access a list of books written by Indigenous authors, illustrators and Knowledge Keepers: https://bit.ly/3zB4LuT ➡️ Read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action (PDF): https://bit.ly/47KY9qc ➡️Read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) report: https://bit.ly/4eJ63mj ➡️ Learn about the history of the land you live on: https://bit.ly/3zQOTnU

Last week, we hosted our annual Learning Achievement Ceremony, where we recognized more than 40 staff at MGH who reached a significant educational goal in the past year. Recipients include those who completed a PhD, master’s or bachelor’s degree; diploma; professional certificate; or Canadian Nurses Association exam – all while continuing to serve our patients through their roles at MGH. These individuals’ commitment to furthering their education makes our hospital teams stronger and helps improve the care we provide our community. Congratulations to this year’s Learning Achievement recipients! ⭐🎓💚

Myron and Berna Garron are longtime supporters of our hospital and we’re thrilled to see their generosity will continue to benefit the East Toronto community through a gift to the University of Toronto's new Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH)!  MGH is a proud partner at this state-of-the-art facility, which will provide training to healthcare professionals who reflect the areas of Scarborough and the Eastern Greater Toronto Area. This helps ensure these fast-growing communities have the physicians, specialists and other healthcare professionals they need. “This generous investment from Myron and Berna Garron is a commitment to the future of healthcare; through their support of SAMIH and their partnership with MGH, they’re enabling knowledge creation and sharing that will benefit our communities locally and more broadly,” says Melanie Kohn, President and CEO at MGH. “The Garrons’ gift to our hospital will establish our first Chair in Education, in partnership with the University of Toronto, which will advance our ability to train tomorrow’s outstanding healthcare leaders.” Read more about the Garrons’ generous gift and what it means for healthcare in our community at the link below ⬇
