Critical minerals are essential for clean technologies like wind turbines and solar panels. However, research shows that just over half of BC residents are aware that these technologies rely on critical minerals to function. Source: Mario Canseco, Research Co. British Columbia has a unique opportunity to deliver a critical minerals windfall, attracting private sector investment and securing jobs and economic benefits for decades to come. But this will only be possible if we accelerate permitting and approval processes. If we can put a person on the moon in 8 years, surely we can speed up mine permitting and maintain high environmental standards. Ahead of Canada’s National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, we honour the survivors of the residential school system, the children who never returned home, their families and communities. At MABC we acknowledge the importance of advancing meaningful reconciliation with First Nations in BC and across Canada and are committed to improving our understanding of our shared history. 🧡 #TruthAndReconciliation #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters #NDTR

MABC is pleased to hear about new federal government infrastructure funding to help unlock critical minerals development in Northern BC’s Golden Triangle. Today, federal Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson announced a contribution of up to $20 million from the Critical Minerals Investment Fund for Galore Creek Mining Corporation’s access road linking the Galore Creek Project to existing road infrastructure. Road improvements in Tahltan Territory will facilitate power line infrastructure and proposed mine, mill and process facility construction. Galore Creek is a 50:50 partnership between Teck Resources Limited and Newmont Corporation and is working to advance one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper-gold-silver deposits in northwest BC. #criticalminerals #bcmining #bcpoli
Galore Creek Mining Corporation, a 50:50 Partnership between Teck Resources Limited and Newmont Corporation, wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the federal government and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) for their announcement regarding $20M in Critical Minerals Infrastructure Funding for the Galore Creek Access Road. This important investment in Canadian critical minerals will connect existing infrastructure, provide road access to the location of the proposed mill and processing facilities, reducing costs, de-risking the Project, and shortening the Project timelines; ultimately, meaning that the Project will be producing high-quality, low-carbon intensity, copper concentrate sooner. “We’d like to thank Minister Wilkinson and the Government of Canada for their contribution to developing the Galore Creek Mine and, by extension, Canada’s critical minerals industry. Canada’s support for Galore Creek represents confidence in our project, our owners, the relationships we have fostered with the Tahltan Nation and our commitment to responsibly developing a world-class copper–gold mine.” Rob Mean, General Manager, Galore Creek Mining Corporation Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/ggv6HBY4 Find out more about the Galore Creek Project here: www.gcmc.ca

Critical minerals offer British Columbians a generational economic opportunity. Hudbay Minerals Inc. is expanding copper production via the New Ingerbelle Project, approximately 20 km south of Princeton. The Project will enable the production of copper, which we depend on daily for mobile phones, laptops and electric vehicles. The New Ingerbelle Project will secure jobs, service and supply opportunities and significant economic benefits in southern British Columbia for decades, while making a positive contribution to the global energy transition.
