Changing the world, one Molok® container at a time!

About us

Developed with the end user in mind, the Molok® Deep Collection™ system offers a clean and efficient collection point for a variety of waste types. The key to Molok container’s superior performance is the vertical, underground design which uses the laws of nature, gravity and cooler temperatures underground to achieve greater capacity and reduced odours. What makes Molok® containers stand out is the emptying method. Molok® containers are emptied through the bottom of a reusable lifting liner using a hydraulic arm. This method offers key benefits not available with conventional containers, such as flexible site placement, and the opportunity for landscaping. Are you interested in Molok®? • Did you know? Compost taken to a waste-to-energy facility generates biogas that is used to create electricity, and a liquid digestate. The digestate is a CFIA certified fertilizer, which is land applied on local farms as an alternative to commercial fertilizers. Molok is a proud supporter of The Compost Council of Canada and we'll be attending this year's conference in Niagara Falls, look for us there. • 25 Years - A Journey Through Innovation and Sustainability Molok North America has a rich history of pioneering sustainable waste management solutions, beginning in the early 1990s when visionary Finnish entrepreneur Veikko Salli invented the revolutionary crane-lifted semi-underground system. This innovation laid the foundation for Molok®, a brand known for its efficiency, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. Veikko was inspired by the often overflowing, smelly, and pest-ridden conventional waste bins. He envisioned a vertical, semi-underground, crane-emptied waste container that used gravity for compaction, reducing collection frequency and minimizing environmental impact. Molok North America was established in 1999 when Veikko’s daughter and Molok Ltd. co-owner, Marja, brought the innovative solution to the continent. Marja laid the corporate foundations of excellence, innovation, integrity, and care within Molok. She led with courage, driving solutions and meeting customer needs until her passing in 2018 after a valiant battle with cancer. These ideals remain at the foundation of who we are at Molok. Innovation is at the core of Molok North America. Our customer-driven focus led to the evolution of customer-facing solutions, including a semi-inground solution for collecting cooking grease, bear-resistant lids, and controlled access lids for textile collection. An evolution of sustainable framing options has led us to our decorative and customizable composite framing that seamlessly integrates the containers into the site. In recent years, the company has integrated advanced technologies into its products. SMART™ brings IoT smart city features like wireless Access Management and Fill Level Measurement, enabling real-time monitoring, efficient collection scheduling, and enhanced user access control. Molok's commitment to sustainability extends beyond its products. The company continually seeks to reduce its environmental footprint through responsible manufacturing practices and eco-friendly materials, promoting waste reduction, recycling, and resource conservation. “As we at Molok look to the future, we remain dedicated to revolutionizing waste management through innovative solutions and sustainable practices,” says Molok CEO Mark Hillis. “We continue to explore new technologies and expand our product offerings to meet the evolving needs of our customers. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction, Molok is poised to shape a cleaner and more sustainable world.” “Our first 25 years are a testament to the visionary thinking and sustainable innovations of our founder Marja,” says Hillis. “From our humble beginnings to our status today as industry leaders in crane-lifted collection, we at Molok remain committed to making a positive difference in the world. I can’t wait to see what the next 25 years will bring.”

  • The Challenges We Face – An Inconvenient Effort   In the global quest for sustainable living, one fundamental step stands out: the separation of organics from waste. This simple practice holds immense significance in environmental and resource management.   Separation of organics from waste is highly beneficial. Biodegradable waste materials can be transformed into valuable resources through composting or anaerobic digestion, reducing waste in landfills and generating compost and biogas. This also helps mitigate greenhouse gas emissions by diverting organic waste from landfills, curbing our carbon footprint. Separating organics promotes circular economy principles, enhancing soil fertility, agricultural productivity, and sustainable food systems while minimizing resource reliance and fostering a resilient ecosystem.   On an individual level, practicing organics separation fosters a sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility, empowering us to actively participate in waste reduction efforts, promoting a culture of sustainability and mindful consumption.   Today, as International Compost Awareness Week comes to an end, we at Molok North America applaud the efforts of both the US and the Canadian Composting Councils, and others around the globe for their efforts in helping us to embrace organics diversion, working towards a more sustainable future, and preserving the planet for generations to come.
