  • 🛑 Content Advisory: This post contains content that discusses suicide prevention and intergenerational trauma, including the ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities. We acknowledge that this may be difficult to read, particularly for Survivors and their families. Please take care of yourself and reach out for support if needed. We've included a list of resources in the comments section. 💙 September brings a mix of emotions, from back-to-school excitement to more complex feelings for others. It’s also a time to observe Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th), and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30th)—all of which remind us of the need for understanding, connection, action, and change for the betterment of All. 💜 Myles Ahead is dedicated to advancing child and youth mental health, ultimately to prevent suicide. We co-designed the Life Promotion Video Series with youth, starting with the video Just Ask, which encourages open conversations about suicide risk. ➡️ Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/g6u6pY7Q 💛 Our work aims to co-create resources that support difficult conversations about suicide, promoting life and suicide prevention. We are dedicated to cultivating environments that encourage dialogue, understanding, and connection. 🧡 As the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation approaches, we pause to honour Survivors, reflect on the impact of intergenerational trauma, and remember those who did not survive. This day reminds us that (re)Conciliation is an ongoing journey. 🧡 Guided by our core values, including D.IDEA (#Decolonization, #Inclusion, #Diversity, #Equity, and #Antiracism), we collaborate with Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth to improve mental health supports and services. 🧡 Run Myles Ahead is raising awareness and funds for youth suicide prevention. While our work supports all youth, suicide rates among Indigenous youth are alarmingly high—First Nations youth face rates 6.2 times higher and Inuit youth 23.9 times higher than their non-Indigenous peers. These disparities show the urgent need for change, including culturally relevant, timely, and accessible mental health resources. 🏃🏾♀️ Run Myles Ahead is on Sunday, October 6th at 10:00 AM at the Leuty Boathouse along Toronto’s Beach Boardwalk. 🙌 We've raised over $17,000, and we’re grateful to all who’ve registered or donated! ➡️ Sign up by September 15th for a chance to win a kid’s cooking class with one of our sponsors, Little Kitchen Academy: https://lnkd.in/eK_86CCj Statistics Source: Statistics Canada #KidsCantWait #LifePromotion #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthIsHealth #IndigenousMentalHealth #ChildMentalHealth #YouthMentalHealth #MylesAhead #RunMylesAhead2024
