“Giselle has always been my dream role since I was a little girl. She has a beautiful and pure soul and she loves to dance, just like us dancers. I’m excited to embrace the role and embody a joyful girl who falls in love, feel her pain when she is betrayed and then become a strong and mature spirit.” Tirion Law, Principal Dancer This season, our newest Principal Dancer Tirion Law will make her exciting debut in the title role of #GiselleNBC. Tirion joins the ranks of the world’s most celebrated ballerinas who have embraced the technical and dramatic challenge of dancing Giselle, one of the greatest roles in the classical canon. Onstage November 20 – 24. http://bit.ly/3NidTaW Tirion Law.🎥 by Paul McNulty.

First Soloist Chelsy Meiss retires from the National Ballet after 16 outstanding years with the company. Chelsy’s infectious energy and technical precision is illuminated in a wide repertoire of classical and contemporary roles, from heartbreaking Juliet in Romeo and Juliet to the elegant Snow Queen in The Nutcracker, radiant female lead in Paz de la Jolla and more. In 2019, she made history as the first woman to perform the tap-dancing Mad Hatter in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Her artistry, dedication and warmth earned her the Patron Award of Merit in 2009 and the David Tory Award in 2016. She was born in Melbourne, Australia and trained at Karen Curlis School of Dance, Thelma Williams School of Dance, The Victorian College of The Arts and The Australian Ballet School in Melbourne, Chelsy danced with San Diego Ballet before joining The National Ballet of Canada as a member of the Corps de Ballet in 2008. She became a First Soloist in 2015. Chelsy will be celebrated onstage by the entire company as she says farewell dancing the role of Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis in Sir Peter Wright’s Giselle on November 23 at 2:00 pm. From all of us at The National Ballet of Canada, thank you Chelsy for your many brilliant performances and dedication to the company. We will miss you!
