Today, the Adult Vaccine Alliance / Alliance Vaccins pour Adultes released a study (https://lnkd.in/gwcwWdPc) that highlights the significant health and economic benefits of increasing adult vaccination rates in Canada. The report reveals that adult vaccines, including those for influenza, COVID-19, shingles, and pneumonia, generate $2.5 billion in economic and healthcare benefits annually. A modest 10% increase in vaccination rates could provide an additional $685 million to the economy each year. While vaccines are critical for preventing severe illness and supporting the Canadian economy, current access and funding limitations hinder their full potential. Our own Shelita Dattani, who is also an AVA Executive member, emphasized, “Our study demonstrates that adult vaccines are not only an excellent tool for supporting population health—they can be a vital economic asset. For every dollar invested in vaccines, Canada gains a $3.41 return in healthcare savings and economic benefits. These are savings we cannot afford to ignore.” Community pharmacies are instrumental in improving access to these vaccines, playing a crucial role in ensuring Canadians can easily receive the vaccinations they need. By expanding access and funding for adult vaccines, we can unlock their full potential in protecting public health and strengthening the economy.
