New Media Manitoba, in partnership with DigiBC - The Creative Technology Association of British Columbia, is proud to present "Protopica" by Manuel Sainsily and Will Selviz at Hyper Lite. Originally premiering at this year's Signals Exhibition, the film transports you to a realm where you can envision future possibilities and explore forgotten pasts. By blending state-of-the-art technology with cultural storytelling, the exhibit invites participants to rediscover their roots and reflect on the ever-changing meaning of “home.” This profound connection to ancestral legacy leaves visitors inspired, with a newfound sense of belonging that transcends the boundaries of time and space. You can experience this short film at StudioLab xR as part of Hyper Lite. Special thanks to Signals and Signals XR Lab for helping make this possible! This week, New Media Manitoba hosted 25 dedicated educators from Winnipeg 1 School Division at StudioLab xR. We showcased how Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) enables learning and engagement in students across a wide array of subject areas. It was incredible to see how passionate the group was about the importance of STEAM in the classroom. The goal is to give students the freedom to create, innovate and collaborate. We look forward to providing more educational development in Real-Time 3D visualization with tools like UEFN. #epicgames #uefn #unrealengine #STEAM

Game Development is tough, and many teams will get to the point where they need to look beyond their initial game project to find some different path to survive. Many consider if 'Service Work' is the way to go - taking on game development work from clients in (and out of) the game industry that will pay the bills and keep the lights on. Few who venture down this path first consider the implications on their team, and how they may need to evolve as a business to succeed in this very different end of the business. Noah Decter-Jackson has tread this path - from starting up Complex Games as an indie studio working on its own game, to pivoting to Work-For-Hire through several very different stages of the game industry, to pivoting back to independent game development and launching a successful title - Noah has faced the many trials and tribulations of building a successful "Work-for-Hire" game development studio. In this talk, Noah will tackle the challenges of Service Work in Game Development, what you should consider, and whether or not it's the path for you. Join us on October 16th from 5:30 to 9:00 at NMM's Albert Street studio for this fascinating talk, followed by a Q&A and networking!
