At Nordicity we are thrilled to see these essays return as a continuation of the British Council's work highlighting the profound connection between cultural heritage and inclusive growth. The collection of perspectives and meaningful knowledge exchange was an invaluable journey for the team, and we look forward to the conversations and impacts these essays will continue to inspire.
The essays in this collection were originally commissioned by the British Council and Nordicity as independent thematic studies during the pilot phase of the Cultural Heritage for Inclusive Growth programme. They have since been updated by their authors and edited for the British Council by Inherit. Cultural Heritage for Inclusive Growth is a British Council action research programme which, since 2018, has been exploring ways in which local culture can improve the lives of individuals around the world. The essays are published as part of the British Council’s What Works Cultural Heritage Protection programme which is designed to support better outcomes for cultural heritage protection and local communities by bringing the best available evidence and learning to practitioners and other decision makers across the international heritage protection sector. Together, the essays explore the role of cultural heritage in a sustainable future, and the principles and approaches that can guide action to realise the potential of heritage for human development. From different perspectives, and with reference to examples from around the world, the essays look at major themes including people-centred approaches to heritage, and transparent, accountable and participatory governance. #sdgs #summitofthefuture #development #culturalrelations #un https://lnkd.in/e_mDg432

As part of our ongoing path to meaningful change, we honor the stories and experiences of Indigenous Peoples, whose presence and stewardship have shaped, and continue to shape, this land. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to reflect on both the historical and ongoing injustices suffered by Indigenous Peoples, the lasting impacts of colonization, and the steps we must take toward reconciliation. On this day, we particularly remember the tragic legacy of the residential school system, honor the resilience, dignity, and strength of survivors and intergenerational survivors, and remember the children who never returned home. This year, we also commemorate the 17th anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). For those seeking to deepen their understanding, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation is hosting a session titled “Community Perspectives on UNDRIP,” at the Canadian Museum of History, with an option to participate online today (registration link: https://bit.ly/3BneYvp). The discussion will focus on Canada’s endorsement of UNDRIP and its potential to reshape the Crown-Indigenous relationship. Nordicity gratefully acknowledges the Indigenous Peoples who have stewarded the land on which most of our colleagues live, work, and play since time immemorial, long before colonial borders were drawn. We recognize the deep connections of Indigenous Peoples to the land and we reflect on our shared responsibility to honor the treaties and work toward meaningful reconciliation.

Helping creative and digital industries make informed, evidence-based decisions | Co-CEO and Managing Partner
Some proof that I was, in fact, there at Gamescom (and Devcom). A whirlwind as always, and I look forward to the many follow up conversations to be had. Though I'm not a huge fan of the giant crowds, I will brave them to pass judgement on a re-purposed assassin droid... Until the next one!
