I recently had the honour of speaking at the ‘Visionary 200’ in Chicago, sharing insights of Henkel’ sustainability journey and my outlook for sustainability leaders overall. Speaking alongside experts in the field, I highlighted our company's dedication to a sustainable future.
At Henkel, we believe in pioneering for the good of generations. Sustainability is not just a buzzword for us; it's an integral part of our purpose and business strategy, right alongside digitalisation and innovation.
Our sustainability priorities are clear:
-Climate Action: Our aim is to become climate-positive by 2030, reducing scope three emissions by -30%.
-Circularity: We're striving to achieve full circularity in water, waste, and energy use of our operations by 2030, in addition to our 2025 consumer packaging targets.
-Gender Parity: We're committed to achieving gender parity across all management levels by 2025.
But it's not just about setting goals; we've embedded sustainability into our incentives for the board and management team. Our employees are the driving force behind this transformation, and we're investing in a broader engagement to make them sustainability ambassadors.
Because, at the end of the day, we need everyone to think how to bring sustainable innovations to our customers. I highlighted a few great examples from our industrial technologies to enable decarbonisation and make a meaningful impact in a broad range of sectors. Whether it's increasing the efficiency of electric vehicle batteries or enabling reduction and recycling of packaging materials in FMCG, we're contributing to a low-carbon economy.
But we also know we are still on a journey and don’t have all the answers. New expectations, especially on transparency and disclosure, bring new challenges for sustainability professionals. Collaboration and knowledge-sharing are more important than ever. We're eager to learn from others and share our own experiences, as we collectively drive change towards a more sustainable and vibrant future.
